Airport CEO might look like a deeper game at first glance, because ooooh they have catering and de-icing and such, but all those services really do is give you another vehicle type and a prefab building to throw at incoming planes, they basically just copypasted the refueling mechanic and refluffed it a bunch of times.
Their passengers only have some very basic needs, there is no intermediate management of stores like stocking or kitchen setups, only micro in the form of assigning contracts to every shop and restaurant each week, to have some NPC company fill all the blanks for you.
Most of all though, it feels like SimAirport has more in the ways of depth and challenge. Pax will require more amenities to be happy, they require information and can even set your stuff on fire if they get too pissed. Security checks and ticketing seem to require more effort and time in SimAirport as well, and you have to manage trash, which turns the acceptance of really big planes into a logistical nightmare, as it should.
Also, the entire gameplay loop around airline exclusivity and negotiations adds another layer to the game where you can decide to suck up hard to one airline, building stuff they want in exchange for getting more and more flights from them.
While ACEO has a big focus on Apron stuff and management, inside the terminal there isn't much going on. Only benches, rectangle formed toilets, shop and food zones and a few plants.
And you spend a lot of time with zoneing every square and connect things to eachother and try to find the missing piece.
SA has less Apron function but a lot possibilities for interior design and pax flow management.
May graphics are simpler but it makes a lot of fun just to watch the pax.
The autozoning and assignment of whole zones makes playing a lot essier.
So it depends on what the user wants to have more focus on. And that's why I'm switching between both.
still this is crap, when you build a runway you have no idea how much progress the workers have done as the pre-built runway looks like a fully built runway, game should have gone from EA to beta at best
