They will leave the secure area if needed (ie if their next gate is in a separate 'security wing') but otherwise they generally won't leave the secure area if they don't need to; they do not need to use a Ticketing Desk, and they only need to use security if they de-secure themselves (typically to reach another wing) for some reason.
You can find individual connecting pax by bringing up the 'Pax Flows' overlay and then hitting TAB to switch between them -- on one of them the connecting flight pax will be highlighted in BLUE.
It needs more/additional depth still, for sure -- was a start, though. :)
It would also be a nice challenge for players with big airports and, perhaps several terminals.
