Departures and Arrivals on seperate levels
Hi all,
I'm pretty excited about having multiple floor levels, it allows the game to go real 3d now.
So on one airport I'm working on at the moment, I have departing pax check in on the ground, then they pax go upstairs to level 1, go through security and then board the flight.
Arrival pax exit the aircraft on the ground floor and exit to collect their bags.
How will this work? Can I have a sliding door on both ground and level 1, and the pax will arrive and depart through the correct doors and floors?
Thank you in advance.

At the moment, the passengers for departure and arrival are using the same door on the second floor of the gate.

You can build the gate desks on another floor than the actual gate door. This can help to separate the pax a little bit.
I usually try to lead arriving pax to ground level as soon as they leave the plane.

But a clear separation is currently not possible, you will always have some pax going another way because they want to use another stair/elevator or have to go to another restroom/phone/...

A clear separation has already been developed.

I like stacking gates to minimize footprint/cost. I will put Small gates on one side of a 20-tile wide "Pier" and either Large or XL gates on the other side. The Small gates board on G level and the L and XL gates board on L2. This allows you to have separate seating and amenities for each without overlap. Ticketing is on G, and Pax go up to L2 for Security, then either back downstairs to G for their gate or stay on L2.

You could also do this with Large gates on one side boarding off of L2, and XL gates on the other side, but I have the departure lounge for the XL gates on L3, then after Pax check in at the gate they go down escalators to L2 and board their aircraft. There is a hallway running along the XL gate side (2 tiles wide) to funnel arriving Pax toward stairs/escalators where they can either go back up to L3 or to another gate on L2 for their next flight, or down to L1 for Baggage Claim.

Ok, so I think I've solved the problem. L and XL gates only use 1st (Level 2) for the gate.
Trying to work out how to upload screenshots..

I managed to solve it, but it took some trial and error to get it right. I made a room between the gate agent desks and the door to the jet bridge, in which I put to escalators to the G-floor. To stop arriving passengers from entering the departure hall I put security exit gates to enter the room. This way arrivals don't exit into departures and departing passengers can still board the flight. However, in some cases the arriving passengers still exited through the security gates some how, I think it was because of the escalators getting backed up, so when using two of them it seems to work for now.

Interesting. This should actually end up that the gate is in an unsecure area. But somehow the system does accept it because the security door are at level 2 and not at ground level.

Keep in mind that there are Pax who are connecting through your airport who need to stay IN the Secure Area so they don't have to go through security again to catch their next flight...

At the moment all arriving passengers are leaving the airport. Connecting flights are not available.

I've seen pax come off of one plane and go to another gate and get on another... Maybe that was just me.

I also use this kind of routing without any problem. If connecting flights get entered into the game, this might become interesting.
It might be possible to route the pax directly away from the gate and back into the transit area though. For that I would prefer one-way doors instead of security-exits. They would be quite essential for direction pax-traffic.

So I went back to a save from Edge testing of Multi-Level and made this short video to throw some ideas out there...

You could use Security Gates to prevent arriving PAX from entering the Departure area. Use only up or down escalators to prevent PAX from going back to that area. From here, you can have the PAX go to Baggage Claim or be routed back into the Departure area at a different point. To keep it secure, you would need more Security Gates. These would be either before or after the Baggage Claim to keep the airport secure.

If needed, I can upload screenshots when I get home.

A-train, I think your pax that are going up to the third floor from the second have routed to the bathroom on the second floor rather than got off another plane.
