Regardless.
If you ask Chris or Mark they will tell you that Prison Architect was their saviour, their magnum opus, their legacy, their baby. It's not a well known fact that Introversion was facing liquidation and the boys (jokingly or not) talked about possible jail time themselves due to the fact they were arguably valuing the company higher than it was worth should insurance need to pay out.
The point being that those are 2 of the most real, transparent and down-to-earth devs ever to grace us with their dreams and visions and I have never ever ever heard them be anything but humbled when others are inspired by their work.
Rimworld devs had approached them to use assets with the condition they would make their own at a later date. I see no evidence to suggest assets are even being used in this game so it would be no more than a courtesy should the devs decide to do so.
Irrespective of ANY of that previous paragraph though. I am pretty sure Chris and Mark would be humbled once again to see the game that brought them out the pit to inspire new devs to take on new themes and projects clearly inspired from their work.
Surely inspiration of others showing in your own work is the greatest of homage and compliments is it not?
I was surprised at the price and definitely made that known infact I do believe it was the post the devs responded in. BUT!!!! something occured to me. I backed PA at the same price because I knew who Introversion were, I knew who Chris and Mark were and I had every faith in them.
I've lurked quietly and curiously ever since I made my first post and watched what others said, what the devs said and this young mans tutorial video finally sold me http://steamcommunity.com/app/598330/discussions/0/133260492061851167/
Infact it is because the devs are so inspired by PA that I have 100% faith in them and I will be bitterly disappointed should I come to rue those words. In my mind the devs do not appear to just be inspired from a design philosophy they appear to be inspired by a DEVELOPMENT philosophy.
So if I were to take your post and put it to you that if this cracking little tycoon title were to be supported and managed in the same way as Introversion handled PA ... surely there would be no justifiable way you could argue it was not worth the same price.
Chris and Mark started as 2 ppl, it took atleast a year or so before they got the other guys and even then I believe it was barely half a dozen.
I might be wrong but I get the impression it is a bigger team working on this and that means they can be more productive from the get go. Even if that is not the case though my previous comments would be very hard to counter now that I've had you look outside the box :)
Some food for thought sir.
Well I will echo that response in saying that I do not disagree with you ... I just really hope it is with good intent and sincerity. It will be very sad if it isn't because then your message may indeed become a warning in more ways than one.
HOWEVER. I did check out the competition when it comes to Airport Tycoons and it is very very slim. CEO did not impress me one bit and inc seems to have gone dark now for a loooooong time.
Using PA as a guide/inspiration may well be a massive part of the fluidity and structure for this game and can you honestly say that it's a bad idea to take a similar concept and employ it for a different theme?
---->WORLD OF WARCRAFT<----
Commandos
Hidden & Dangerous
Every single street gang/warfare game since GTA
Every single miilitary FPS since Wolf 3D
Supreme Commander
So many more but I wanted to list games that have defined genres to make the point. NONE of these would exist had all the potential buyers thought the way you are. I am not saying you are wrong to think that way or that your thinking is wrong. I am simply playing devils advocate to change perspective a little.
Regardless of your choice just now Sneaky, keep an eye open for my name in posts and topics because you can be damn sure that for better or worse you will get nothing but facts and forward thinking from anything you read from me. Provided you are interested but slightly put off that is. Pointless if you are absolutely against the game.
I understand that there are some games that "set a trend" but for it to straight up feel like I am going to be playing an heavily modded version of PA... for 20 bucks? If they were to make it feel like their own title, or make it original, then sure.
This is the great thing about there being so many options out there, and I respect your responses, tbh there I was expected the normal flame posts, so I tip my hat to you, rare to find someone with more then a millennial level of responce. :)
I will keep the game on my follow list, and see if they change course, and if it goes on sale, because I can see myself wasting mnay hours playing it as I do with PA.
SC, C&C, Warcraft, and hundreds of other game all have simulatirites and some look almost exactly the same. "yes some built by same dev teams so makes sense.." But at some point any new game will be similar to prior games.
Different companis have made roller coaster or park games. And most very similar. They dont own anyone credit for anything. When make a game in a gene it will be more then likely it will have another game out there that is similar or even the same.
As for giveing credit if PA gave them the idea that would be nice. But not honestly required. As could simply be from factorio or other low graphic games. Most of the assests they are useing that i can tell come from unity assest store which ANYONE has access to. So not sure what to say. It is always good to give credit when some thing gives you the idea. But if came up with own idea that happens to match another game... its iffy.
EDIT: Also i heard rumors they going to add unque stuff to game. Maybe also upgrade graphics... But time will tell. But i have to admit i thought was same dev team when first saw game also..
This will be what I am waiting for. :) I do look forward to what they will make of the game and how they plan to put their own touch to the feel of the game play.
It takes for you to not be a millenial my friend. Return of the Jedi was released in a good year ;)
Keep this one on your shortlist Sneaky because I am no fanboy, if you read my post burried somewhere around here you will see I was alot less polite than you were and i DEFINITELY referenced PA.
But I am also not millenial as you pointed out and open minded and wise enough to see beyond the obvious and change perspective.
There is a great game to be made here. Provided its feature list and mechanics can help you look past the initial impression from its visual design - you would be mistaken to write this one off.
Obi doesn't often get a good feeling ESPECIALLY in this genre as much as I love it its not without its barrel of rotten apples but seriously keep an eye on this one.
Besides if I am wrong I am passionate about this genre enough that should it be the case you will find plenty posts here with my name on it letting it be known. I do not mince my words, I just choose them carefully.
Edit: you added a lot in your edit, and I still agree, I have it on the list, and will be keeping an eye on it. Maybe once I get bored with PA, I'll explore this one. For now, it is too similar.
I have spent the better part of the afternoon watching lets plays and it show a lot of promise, I know I will be keepin gup with any news that is posted about updates and development of the game. The game looks like it could give me as much time played as I have with PA. I have family that works in the airline industry and I think it would be cool to build and airport they could comment and help me improve on.
Keep up the good work, you have many eyes waiting to see what you will be making :)
Keep in touch Sneaky, while we can't promise anything its the fans and the community that we've spent as much time as possible talking to that are helping us mold this game in the right direction; you're no different mind you.
Will do, thank you for keeping the community in mind
