What exactly is the security exit for?
The item has me a bit baffled. Is it to allow people getting off a plane to exit to the baggae claim without going through the security zone?

That's correct.

It also stops people from going the other way, so you can funnel people where you want them to go :)

Last time I played people would still walk through them in both directions

@Zordah -- It shouldn't be happening, passengers that are not secured see all objects in secured areas to be "out of scope" and so they don't actually consider them [fully] when deciding what to do next.

There may be some task-specific bugs going on (ie 'throwing trash away' specifically ignores it) or something, but shouldn't be getting outright disregarded. If you do see it happening though we'll definitely look into it though, ideally with save game files that demonstrate the issue if at all possible! :-)

The secure exits also serve as 'security borders' -- they allow passengers to pass through while still maintaining the 'behind security' aspect of your secured area, "boundaries" basically.

We'll eventually be getting things like 1-ways and more fine-grained control objects in too though.

Here's a screenshot of the layout and passengers walking through bypassing security

I think the problem is I am trying to use them as one way gates but they are not actually in the security zone but the whole area to the right and the passageway out is considered secure. It 95% works but you still get some passengers going against the flow.

I also noticed this:

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=891175159

With the initial security gates inside the security zone the pax would walk through metal detector and then turn around and exit to the left via the check id desks to hang around doing nothing.
If I removed the security zone from the security gates like so

http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=891177360

Now the pax will walk through the metal detectors and continue straight out the right into the lounge area, the will no longer turn around and exit left.

I'll send you the save file for this game. Immediately at the start you can see the first screenshot setup

You don't need security gates after the metal scanners.

Just on the arrivals exit

If you don't then all the arrivals walk through the security zone to exit the airport instead of taking the south passageway
