All my attacks do 1 damage.
Did I do something wrong, I had attacks that did 20 damage.

cow puncher - muscle and melee damage clothing
snake oiler - moxie and pistol attack damage clothing
beanslinger - mysticality and spell damage clothing

reading nex mex books downgrades some of your stats, except the first one.

make sure to turn on auto xp spending if you turned it off, unless you want to upgrade a skill
try to get the best weapon. i go for weapons with +muscle cuz i like to do a lot of damage. (my class is the cow puncher)

try to upgrade your weapon at the silver plater and sharpen it at grady's fine leather goods in dirtwater (needs a quest)

make sure to downgrade your enemy's stats if they're stronger than you! wear clothing that gives more maximum attack points so you can do more stuff in battle. (boots usually do the trick). try and apply snakeskin to your hat

I realised that I was facing enemies with better stats then me and that was the problem. (I don't play rpgs.)

Okay so my problem was that I was fighting a boss ( this one: https://westofloathing.fandom.com/wiki/A_giant_rock_monster) that was much much stronger than me. I ended up beating this boss my changing my clothes and using items that gave out a fixed amount of damage to kill it (I think I used dynamite). If you are on that same boss, try something similar. If you are not on that point, can you please tell me where you are?

happened after the train smashed the mountain
I can't remember is there a peaceful option, if there is try that and if you there isn't one just use items that give out a specified amount of damage regardless of stats to beat it. That's how I did it. (I think, it was 3yrs ago)

Then do keep on doing side quests to level up then. Either that or start a new game and build your character differently.

There is a peaceful option, I know because of Markiplier. I can’t remember if it is specific to the snake oiler, or if it’s just one of those speech related skills.
Honestly there seems to be a peaceful, or mostly peaceful, option for just about everything.
