Does that help?.
I think if DEV's wan't people to buy and trust this game, then they need to make some reassurances of what the heck is going on here. Why the "error"? What part of the code is causing this to flag and why? Can't they fix it? I've NEVER seen this with ANY Steam game, and in large part is why I'm considering asking for a refund and something with less hassle.
Are you using avast?, it appears to have a history of this.

The one missing out on a cracking game is you, but each to there own.
Get a better AV or simply tell it to ignore, nothing the devs can do about it.
There is literally nothing the devs can do regarding false AV positives. That's on the AV program itself. Usually sped up by users of their program reporting that the file is okay via the AV program itself.
I got my purchase refunded because Steam rocks. I guess if the DEVS don't care if they miss out on some bread that's on them. Cope harder I guess if you're a fanboi or if you work for Old World's publisher.
Actually the "negative" commenters have added lots of valuable information for you:
1. No one else is reporting this error.
2. Steam virus scans ALL files it distributes with its system.
3. Devs of computer games do not keep virus signatures up to date, only anti-virus companies do that.
4. False positives are usually sped up being fixed by the AV company by clicking on the "report false positive" button that good AV software has.
And another for you. :)
The particular message you got IDP.Generic relates to your AV seeing something that looks like it might be sending identity information outside your PC. However, since a LOT of valid software does this (including Old World which will send some identity information to Steam, to cloud save storage, to achievements, to mod.io even for mods), some AV software (ok let's be honest here, this is really only a problem with Avast) will flag it as a trojan. When it's not. To clarify, the IDP part determines it as a potential identity transfer flag, and Generic means the AV software thinks it might be doing something, but can't put its finger on exactly which method the potential identity transfer is happening. The AV maker needs to update the signature file to not flag Old World as IDP.Generic.
You can read more about it here. https://whatt.org/questions/tech/what-is-idp-generic/
The solution was to uninstall McAffeee.
On your first post, the developer answered in a week, and then it took you a month and a half to reply. WHICH THEN THE developer answered immediately.
Please keep the cabbages, they are usually smelly.
You seem very concerned about how long it took me to respond.
Understand a few things:
1) I had already asked for and received a refund for the game. Most people are intelligent enough to recognize that likely means I wasn't paying a lot of attention to my email on Steam about this game.
2) I work. A lot. Sue me. Maybe you don't? Maybe, as I suspect, your life is probably pretty mundane. So much so, that you need to come and randomly comment to feel self validated. I don't really care. Your words mean nothing to me. I don't check my Steam mail very often, since I deal with so many emails on a daily basis from a variety of sources. Apparently you can't exist without it. Ha. Here's some great life advice. Don't involve yourself in a negative manner when you aren't involved.
3) If you claim to work in a field of stupid people, then odds are good you must ALSO be stupid. Pretty stupid corner you've painted yourself into, IMO.
4) Like I said, I've downloaded SCORES of games over quite a lengthy time on Steam. Never had one flag a trojan. Not my problem. Steam lived up to their end of the deal.
5) You must be a fanboi to have gotten so upset about my anti-virus.
Again, thanks for the validation, deflection and general crying about this post.
