No, there's only 8 empires: Assyria, Babylonia, Carthage, Egypt, Greece, Persia, Rome and Hittites (Hatti in the game).

Gaul is in game as a tribe that could be be spawned at start of a play.

EDIT:
The wiki doesn't include Hittites, it isn't up to date.

i wish gauls or celts would have been playable

Me too, it's a shame I can't teach a lesson or two to Italians. I wonder if it would irritate some players that there's a Celt empire option and still keep Gaul tribe.

That said, something around german tribes would be very pertinent too,

One idea would be to allow empires not in the game to be tribes. So if there's no Rome then there can be an Italian tribe. Then there wouldn't be a problem with Gaul as either empire or tribe.

Nobody gives the Etruscans any love. Game should have started with Etruscans instead of Romans. Break up the Greeks too

Right, when Rome isn't in a play, Etruscan tribes could be in this play. For Gauls, and English wiki and quick overview, I failed find anything that could be a tribe replacing a Gaul empire not in the game. That also why a more symbolic Celt empire looks like a good addition, with Gaul used as tribe when Celt empire isn't in the play.

There's not only the Greek simplification that is weird, it's almost worse with Carthage, for me both justify a more symbolic Celt empire and Gaul empire is more coherent than Carthage empire that was series of empires named differently.

I never knew that about Carthage; I'll have to look that up. It'd be neat to see a game going further back in time say early bronze age then have all the various cultures pop up as the game progresses. A more tribal/city-state game than an empire per say.

It's Phoenicians that founded Carthage, it's later there's been a Carthaginian empire. That said I had confusing with the Greeks garbage, oops. :-)
Ok, now that makes sense. I didn't know people lumped Phoenicians with Carthage.

The Etruscans are conspiciously missing, indeed. If any of the devs might be reading along, a link: https://books.google.nl/books?hl=nl&lr=&id=hJL69xHDTwEC&oi=fnd&pg=PR12&dq=etruscans+civilization&ots=sqs__TnjFB&sig=aknK8F8kIRIH9-CXR2a2eaic3lk&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=etruscans%20civilization&f=false

Estruscans would get my vote too as they'd liven up the western half of the Old World map. Both Rome and Carthage have plenty of space and time to develop before coming into conflict with another AI faction. It would make Rome's early game much more challenging as they'd be in very close proximity.

No they area Tribal faction, and Gallic would be better represented by Celtic Tribes covering a larger area, that raid from further away, upgrade to better troops less often etc.

What you can do is make the Belgae a playable nation placed around Flanders, See here https://youtu.be/hE9W83APVyY and as a player seek to unite the Celtic Tribe/s under your control, or the Helveti/Auedi if you wanted to be closer to the center of gravity.

Well.... time to revive this thread.

I am absolutely, agree there. The Etruscans should be ingame, notably since the Hittites are in the game now.

For the Gauls, I'm surprised that they got agglutined into one faction (like, if we were back in early 2000's). I mean, we got Danes and Vandals, (which is great), so I don't view why the Gauls could not be divided too.

Honestly, they should be divided into the Helvetii and Arverni, as they are they were the two major powers in western europe, back then. From that point, the Arverni could be an playable faction, with Vercingetorix, as their leader. I mean, it had the ambitions to inite all the celtic world under his banner.
