Incautious driver quest?

I've done this quest at least a half a dozen times and I keep getting the Reckless driver. How exactly does one get them to turn into the Judicious driver?

If I'm not wrong, you have to hurry to the Reserve before the time runs out, or he wil become Reckless

Is there some special need for that variant? According to the wiki they have the same stats

After the funeral at New Winchester, you have to choose "face the Verdant" and then hurry to the Reserve

It's more a convenience thing, if they become Reckless you have to pass a hearts check everytime you visit the reserve, otherwise he's lost forever.

Strange, don't recall getting that check though. Is it just the station itself or something in particular.
