Amiable Vagabond Questions [No Spoilers]
I've reached (what i think is) the first point in the vagabond's questline where i have to make a real choice. Breaking ratbite out of jail, and the method i use to do it will apparently affect our friendship.

I'd like to know what im getting into here, and how things will roughly end up. I'd like to avoid spoilers, so please spare me any details of story, and stick to dry mechanics

I know he has one final form that gives +10 hearts, i'd probably like that one if possible. There's a veils one too, i don't care for. And from a brief glance at the wiki, it looks like there's an ending where he dies. Does that give any other rewards that make it worthwhile?

What does this friendship choice mean? What choices should i make, and when, to achieve various outcomes?

Pulling of the heist will improve your friendship with him, using your contacts won't I don't know that it's an irrevocable decision. The really important thing about deciding the Vagabond's fate is that you learn everything you can about him and his past, but you might be able to learn more from other people you haven't met yet. It's kind of hard to say more without spoilers. Check in again later?

Your questions are far too specific to avoid specific answers. I will say you will probably end up using a different officer in that slot so don't worry too much about your choices - at this point. But yes, please check back.

It's more a question about whether you can pass the Veils test? If it looks too chancy, use a cryptic benefactor. That particular choice won't have any significant effect on the outcome.

This hasn't quite been helpful.
Yes i do want specific answers, all im saying is, keep them specific and without context. For example, something like
"You can get the +10 hearts form if you feed five barrels of tea to the rabbit in port prosper" would be helpful, i have no context for that so it wouldn't spoil much, but it'd let me know what to do when i suddenly meet a rabbit

if its hard to say without spoilers then spoil just as much as you need to, the answers are more important

Alright, it's just that no spoilers was the first thing you said. So to get the Hearts version of the Vagabond, you have to save his life when you get the chance, but there's also a chance you might die along that route. You're fairly safe right now, but it gets kind of dicey toward the end, sometime after you go to Achlys or so -- you won't die on the spot then and there, but there is a point where you can lock yourself out of the 'good' endings, so make sure you learn everything you can about Old Tom's Well from Ratbite, the Lank Minister (inside the well), and Tom himself before making any decisions. The other version of the character involves killing some people who don't deserve it, you're only likely to get it if your captain is fairly evil.

Still trying not to spoil too much. Does that help?

^ Everything Du-Vu said, with the addition of to get the Hearts version: boost your friendship with the Vagabond at every opportunity. So yes, break Ratbite out of jail if you can. You have to trust him implicitly during the questline as well.

All I'm gonna say is: if offered the option, switch the cups!

Specific and without context, yes? But I'll edit my original comment to obscure the consequences of following/not following my advice.

Well, something seems wrong. I switched the cups during the ritual
went to the well, and he died :(

am i missing something? does he come back after? did i screw up somewhere

ive made a backup of my save so im reloading to before the ritual, can do it again, need more answers

I think what you actually want to do is pour out both cups (if you're pretty friendly with the Vagabond, you might not even have to do that), then go to the well. The key is to make him break his agreement with the Well, in which case it takes him instead, which gives you the chance to save him.

I can confirm you don't have to do anything with the cups if your friendship with the Vagabond is high enough. I trusted him all the way and it got me the Dendrified version. Just make sure your friendship is as high as it can be at that point.
Nanako Nov 12, 2019 @ 3:59am
i did every option to improve friendship except doing the veils check to break ratbite out of the cell. Swampdragon told me it wont have any significant effect :(

is there anything else i can do?
Nanako Nov 12, 2019 @ 4:19am
Welp i tried pouring the cups out instead, and that worked, gave me a chance to save him and now i have the dendrified vagabond.
Pretty awful ending for him :<
Du-Vu Nov 12, 2019 @ 5:20am
Yeah, but given what he'd done to other people, and what he was was planning to do you... The other endings are your captain dead and the Vagabond free to keep sacrificing people, the Vagabond in jail with the implication that he'll easily charm his way out again (which doesn't count as completing his quest and you start from the beginning on your next captain), you finding another scapegoat to take your place and basically your whole legacy becoming accomplice to his future crimes, or just delivering the Vagabond to the Well by switching the cups. So, you know. Still maybe the happiest ending possible, unless you consider death to be kinder.
