When do we get Sunless Sea 2?
Hey guys! Is it just me or were you slightly disappointed by the space edition of this masterpiece? Don't get me wrong, the game is gorgeous, well written and pleasantly punishing (not like sunless sea, which was ragequitingly punishing). But a big part of scares for me is sailing on water, not knowing what's down below (and with zubmariner, knowing what's down below and being even more afraid). I was wondering if there is a Sunless Sea 2 coming in the not so distant future? That game was so bloody wonderful, I can't stop thinking of all the possibilities a second game could offer... If you haven't thought of it, maybe now's the chance? Cross my fingers, hope to die.

Not so distant, no.
They have two new games on the production line, kickstarter for one coming soon.

No as far as we can tell. Failbetter Games is working on two games, only one of which is revealed (Mask of the Rose, a Fallen London prequel, which takes place in the Neath and London but as far as we can tell will not be anything like Sunless Sea), while the other will not take place in the Fallen London universe.

So another question is, is it just me or anyone else is really hoping for sunless sea 2?

I'd love to see either Skies or Sea sequel in the future.

hey, you might be interested in Sunless Sea: Rewritten. It's a fan project, not Failbetter official, but it's the closest thing out there to a real Sunless Sea 2

I am intrigued!

Not too far along in Skies, but playing it the first time just made me want to go back to Sea (This tends to happen for me with sequels, but in this case I was not done with my captain in Sea yet). My first impression was how touchy the controls in Skies were compared to Sea. Does this get better?

Theme wise, I've always loved the sea and sailing more than "sci-fi" space travel stories. I got more of a lonely and expansive feel from Sea (the color palate and flavor text helped a lot). I think most of this "distrust" of Skies had to do with the action heavy beginning rather than the start of Sea. I hope I grow to like Skies, but I really would like a return to the seas of the Neath.

Their next 2 announced projects won't be a sequel to Sunless Sea.

Mask of the Rose takes us to Fallen London in the days directly after the city of London was abducted into the Neath.

There is no information about the other project yet, except that it's their first game with a completely new setting. It won't be set in the Fallen London universe.

I mean this IS the sequel to Sunless Sea... so never. I wouldn't hold my breath for another game like Sea or Skies, the next game is a visual novel which are hardly even games.

Has Sovereign Edition even come out yet? I feel like any sequel is a long way off.

The console port is delaying it.

I really hope they remake Sunless Seas, but as a first person 3D game. Call of the Cthulhu doesn't quite do it for me.

They made guess that it will be on March, but they are not exactly confident to set a date.

looking at the % of achievements i think the problem for the devs is that they did not make enough money with zubmariner to justify another sunless sea. it is only my personal guess but "4%" of the players discovered the underground cities means 95% of the sunless sea players didn´t buy or play or enjoyed the addon long enough. I would definetly take part in backing a kickstarter for sunless sea 2 but my hopes are not high we are going to see such a project in our lifetime :(
And the VN they are working on sounds interesting but as others already stated it´s not high quality game dev. Anyone here can take renpy and do it without almost any knowledge of coding, it´s a one man/woman job and not something a team should waste their time on imho.
