I also noticed that some quests appear to become semi-uncompletable on Legacy, maybe? after I finally delivered the horologist, she no longer appeared in London for me, but the quest to actually finish the clock was also not available over at Port Whatever. I don't know if maybe she's at some other port now, but she's nowhere in the Reach, that's for sure. feels like a bug.
Got lost while exploring? Event took your last supplies? Did the scrive-spinster blow your ship out of the skies? You can exit to title screen then reload.
Still won't help you of you dock at hybras with 0 fuel. But you live and learn. Or die and learn I guess.
Yeahh, I feel a little bad but I've been Alt-F4ing and loading when the bees etc overwhelm me. I didn't do that in Sunless Seas at first (and loved-hated the punishment of it all) but after a while I just wanted to play the game to completion as much as possible, and thus began the death save scumming. I swore to myself I wouldn't do that on this one, but once you start it's really hard to go back. I kinda wish it auto-saved on death screens tbh.
I can't imagine getting through all the later maps and then dying, I don't know if I could motivate myself to go through that again so soon after dying.
Real question, is there any difference at all with what you're describing and playing in Merciful mode?
(asking as someone who's been playing on Legacy but is considering to switch)
I really, really don't recommend doing legacy unless you're 100% sure it's something you'll enjoy. It adds an incredible amount of tension to the game. You won't forget your first trip to Eleutheria or The Blue Kingdom if you stick with legacy, I'll tell you that.
(Oh and I actually forgot about a recent death while doing Martyr-King's Cup when I almost had it finished. That one hurt a lot.)
Oh and at the guy who said you can just quit the game and the death doesn't stick- this is true because I found it out on my own by accident. I forget exactly when but at some point I died on an insanely long-lived character and alt-F4'd out of pure despondence. When I came back a while later my character was surprisingly still alive.
It means that yeah, Legacy mode doesn't even matter and even the notion that you should do it for anything other than your own enjoyment is ridiculous. This option is weird but I can see the appeal. You can get the rush of playing a nuzlocke but when your starter feints you just pretend like it didn't happen. Whatever floats your boat.
