Monster Fighting Tips?
I'm feeling pretty good about fighting other engines already since ya just dodge around and all that...but the monsters that just try to tackle you all the time? how the heck do you dodge that? Going through that horror near Magedeline's I just about died...heck I could barely dock from the assault bumping me around.

Hmm.. Some have slow turning speeds which can be exploited by fighting from much closer range. It's hard to explain but I've found closer to be easier for monsters, kinda opposite from how you fight ships.

The chargy flippery ones however can also be fought at mid-long range by having them smash into rocks behind you, as you focus on dodging.

Depends on the monster.

For things like charging enemies if it's a single opponent you just have to learn the tells and boost at the right time to avoid them. For groups it's much harder and you'll actually benefit much more from using as much your time as you can getting them to ram each other or finding an object to separate you and most of them. Ramming enemies hurt themselves very often. Sometimes they back up into walls and die.

For things like floating enemy types (like scrive spinsters) you want to either maintain an extreme distance and attempt to snipe (hard but they have difficulty retaliating) or a middle distance right outside their AOE and dodge their shots. Never get close to them though as their AOE charges up very quickly.

For the very jukey 'guests', they usually jerk left and right a few times and then have a short rest. Don't bother firing while they're juking and only when they rest. Spend your time trying to stay away from their front or keep extreme range.

There's other enemy types, but I don't want to ruin them. If you are having trouble with the charging enemies then you will want to avoid the blue kingdom. There are enemies there that charge in a mannerism that is very hard to dodge and they appear in groups usually. (they also make a very obnoxious sound).

Overall though the game favors playing at extreme range.

Rockets have splash damage if you can find an obstacle to strafe around you can fire at the obstacle and inflict damage on things which are highly manouverable and they sometimes get stuck in awkward positions on it you can also use it to strafe out for a good cannon attack and then back in again. For the really dangerous enemies in Elutheria (Pan) just don't bother unless you have a reason to be hunting them, unlike sunless sea even with the best equipment and engine the giant monsters are not a cakewalk.

If you need to get away turning off your light makes you harder to follow over distance.

Regular Cantankeri have pretty low health, if you've got the standard cannon type equipped you can try playing chicken with them. They're easier to hit when they're charging at you, and about three shots with a tier 2+ should deal with them pretty quickly. Otherwise, getting them to charge into walls or corners is your next best bet. Not only do they take damage, but if you can ensure the wall they collide with is within your cannon range, you can get a few easy shots in while they reorient themselves.

Also, you can tap the dodge button quickly for a short, controlled sidestep that has a very low cooldown, or hold it down for a quick, big jump that takes longer to recharge. I know it sounds basic, but it took me a while to figure that out. A couple short bursts followed by a long dodge can save your butt when it's being charged by a Chorister swarm.

Understanding how much distance you need to keep so that your engine has time to sidestep is tantamount to surviving fights. You move slower backwards than forwards, so try to undershoot rather than overshoot that sweet spot. Also, all engines have the same cruising speed, but they do handle differently. Get to know your engine's dodge distance and turning speed so you can feel out fights better. It'll pay off on the long run.
