Erm, no, but that's because your new captain does not inherit lodgings from previous captains in Sunless Skies. The Grand House you can purchase at New Winchester is there for completing the Wealth ambition (which is the only ambition in game at this stage of development). The Bank and new Legacy systems we've implemented are intended to replace lots of the old functionality lodgings had in Sunless Sea.
In a roleplay sense, yes, the new captain can be the son, daughter, adopted rubbery person, etc of your old captain if you wish. You can name them after your old captain, 'Captain Bridgeofblues II' or 'Citizen Bridgeofblues Jr'. But there's nothing in the content that states they are a direct descendant/child of the previous captain.
