A question about the estate and heirs
So Can are heirs inherit multiple homes from the different regions of the wilderness. And can we actually play as are children?

Erm, no, but that's because your new captain does not inherit lodgings from previous captains in Sunless Skies. The Grand House you can purchase at New Winchester is there for completing the Wealth ambition (which is the only ambition in game at this stage of development). The Bank and new Legacy systems we've implemented are intended to replace lots of the old functionality lodgings had in Sunless Sea.

In a roleplay sense, yes, the new captain can be the son, daughter, adopted rubbery person, etc of your old captain if you wish. You can name them after your old captain, 'Captain Bridgeofblues II' or 'Citizen Bridgeofblues Jr'. But there's nothing in the content that states they are a direct descendant/child of the previous captain.

So will the retirement be different depending on what location you retire in? And also the the home was big gameplay mechanic for sunless sea what will replace it? I kinda love the feeling of always having home with child and my partner to return too.

I would just like to bring up three suggestions what it would be nice to have a playboy epilogue because you work hard for that ending so maybe you could enjoy living wealthy or being a ruler etc. The other suggestion once you finish in ambition you can carryover to your next captain like to have some type of legacy benefit for completing the ambition. Third the street urgent background has a lot of options and really gives you flavored who they were when you play as one of the more adult professionals be students, soldier, poet the choices seem generic in comparison.
