I thought this game was free to play? It isn't so? Do I grab it from Strike?
Airmech Strike is f2p. With microtransactions and stuff, you can buy skins and what not in there. I haven't played it for years so I dunno if it's p2w. I assume not.
Airmech Wastelands is single-player game with co-op and always online requirement. Kinda like Diablo 3 or Path of Exile. It's not free.
The convoluted part comes from the fact that you use the same account for both. So everything you earn in one game is present in the other. So if you were able to cheat in singleplayer component, it would ruin multiplayer component.
This is why Wastelands is always online.
IF AND ONLY IF you have bought anything in the PAST in Airmech and aquired Silver VIP status, you can claim a copy of Wastelands inside the Strike client. If you haven't bought anything before, then you will NOT get it by buying anything now.
1) it doesn't exist. We don't store anything on the client other than some registry things for local graphics settings or other machine specific data. Every action that customizes something or unlocks something sends a command up to the server to do it. The upside is that you can't ever lose progress and never have to worry about where your save file is. The downside is that an internet connection is required.
2) if we did have an offline mode, it would be incompatible with online players for security and probably other reasons. So if there was an offline mode, you would need to choose that when you start, and you wouldn't be able to convert it to online without starting over.
I know the online requirement is inconvenient for some people, but we are upfront about requiring an internet connection. Even satellite internet is fine for playing solo, as the saving of data is very forgiving about latency. Playing coop does require low latency however.
If someone bought it without realizing it requires an online connection they can ask for a refund, that's not a problem. That's a perfect use of the refund system in my view.
