Unfortunately, I have to skip most of the messages so I don’t get spoiled! But I’m sure everyone has given good reasons for how they viewed their experience.
Vaan is like PoV of the player and helping to liberate the kingdom
Everything the other guy said is correct. Take the L like a man.
The argument about Vaan's importance to the story is missing the point. His impact is minimal and could have been easily written around or relegated to a side character. The bigger problem however is that Vaan is just ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying.
Basch should have been the protagonist. If they wanted a younger character then they could have even changed the opening and used Reks. Or just made Vaan less irritating, hearing his voice and seeing that messed up looking Michael Jackson face makes me want to throw my controller.
So, Vaan is the main character then. The story is Vaan’s story, Ashe’s story is something that happens around Vaan’s story, which is the POV of the player.
It’s like, if we describe WW2 through the story of Anne Frank, then she is still the main character, even though she is not the main influence on the things happening to her.
I don’t think it actually is. Had he not botched Balthier and Fran’s heist, they would have just taken minor trinkets, never aware of the one Vaan found.
They also wouldn’t have bumped into “Amalia” who would have likely “succeeded” in her suicide mission, never knowing her birthright. Vaan caused everything to come together.
Just like you, the player.
The stand-in for players!
