I'm interested to know, who do you usually play as and who's your favorite character?

For me, Balthier stands out because I adore his style, voice, and personality: he's charismatic, clever, and a bit cynical. Personally, I find him a more compelling protagonist than Vaan; he truly embodies the role of the leading man in my eyes. But of course, that's just my take on it! How about you? :)

Balthier is the leading actor, Vaan is only the playing-character through whom you experience the story.

like to use Bash or Fran, but more often than not it is just Vaan as it is simpler to manage when you stay consistent

There is no one single main character in FF12. Everyone of five main characters play their parts. Vaan is a street kid who takes on jobs and hunts so that Balthier, Fran, Ashe and Basch are unseen (and they should, because they are wanted people), and he plays his role in the beginning of the story. Balthier is the navigator, who helps the party choose thier next destination + he has an airship. Fran knows her ways about magic, Mist and nethicite and her knowledge is very helpful. Basch is the knight who defends Ashe, the main driving gear of the story of the game, and Basch is also a very good link between story segments of the past and the present (like his conflict with Gabranth, the fall of Dalmasca, his imprisonment and a very weird way of Reks' passing which i can't figure out despite beating this game a couple of dozen times)

By design, story and character, Basch is my favorite and the true protagonist. Vaan, I also really like. Is an interesting character idea, an spectator that gives the point of view of normal people.
