1. Using Mateus/Hashmal on a Knight to get the good White Magicks
2. Using Chuculainn on Red Battlemage to get -ra level Black Magicks.
3. Using Famfrit on Machinist to get Hastega.
Most of the others are really minor stuff that is either immediately obvious or too close to call and coming down to preference.
And as I said in the post you quoted, you cannot screw up anything because you can reset/refund characters at will. So even if you make an Esper choice and then discover you'd rather have a different one, within 5 minutes you can simply redo it and pick differently, and you lose nothing.
You are a fountain of wisdom when it comes to this game. I played through it during an internet outage, but due to not having internet, I didn't get any achievements, so I want to play through it again to get those out of the way. (I will follow a guide to also make sure to pick up any side quests I have missed in my first run). But what I was wondering about, is there any website where you got all this knowledge from that I could use as a cheat sheet for my next playthrough?
But the FF Wiki has most information on the actual data, so if you ever want to know what an item does or how a weapon formula works, just go there and it'll have all the numbers and under-the-hood mechanics.
Keep in mind that a lot of licenses are shared across boards. Notably, the HP and +Strength/+Magick licenses are shared, so you cannot double-dip. You can have a maximum of 16 of each no matter what, and some jobs on their own already have that (Monk has 16 +STR licenses, and Black Mage has 16 +MAG licenses). Adding a second job will not give you more.
And if the game really is too easy for you... Struggle for Freedom: Proud Mode is waiting just around the corner to make you cry ;)
ah okay you dont get double stats, that does make sense.
im curious to try this out, currently downloading the game as i just bought it (with my internet that'll take a long time lol :/)
from what i see here, the first class is different than the "original best guide" for the fan translated ps2 version.
Anything that recommends Shikari+Foebreaker or Monk+Black Mage you can probably chuck right into the trash ;)
i considered going with one of the early comments in this thread, recommending
Knight/Bushi
Shikari/White Mage
Foebreaker/Monk
Uhlan/Machinist
Black Mage/Time Battlemage
Archer/Red Battlemage
which does have me wonder if it is any good as archer, machinist and foebreaker were NEVER recommended by anyone for the old ps2 version. now 2 of them being a starting class sounds odd to me.
but yeah im excited to finally see this glorious game in hd and replay it.
btw, i dont remember but this version has a speed up button right? does it have other major qol changes?
Also keep in mind that many recommendations try to use all 12 jobs, but there's no actual reason to do that. No advantage, no achievement, no nothing. You can just not use Archer at all if you don't want to, and instead double up on another job.
It does have speedup, yes. It also lets you control Espers directly, and set up guest gambits as you please.
Most importantly, this version allows you to reset/refund any character's jobs at will - for free, and as many times as you like. You get back all the LP you spent, and Quickenings/Espers are reset as well. So there's no way to screw up your jobs. If you don't like something... simply go and reset that character, and pick something else. Nothing lost.
Oh, and, they revamped some treasures and got rid of the BS forbidden-chest thing with Zodiac Spear, no more worrying about that ;)
i send you a friend request, prob makes more sense than to spam here haha
Nothing personal! But I'm happy to answer questions and help out with anything you need on here. And that way others can benefit from reading it, too!
aww ok. fair point.
but can you tell me why machinist and archer are like "the solved way" here? when in the original japanese ps2 version they were not used like EVER
