Yes, that's new. You can now control guests and set their gambits, and you can also freely control summoned Espers. That's different from the original.

Sadly, this feature is terrible. The Espers are all so large that you can never see anything when you control them, as they take up 85% of the screen. They kinda stink anyway. I mostly use them for farming out mid tier enemies and just top their health off until they drop their ultimate.

Uh... but it's not like they were smaller or anything in the old version? All that's changed is that you can control them directly now, whereas before they were on a fixed gambit list and acted purely based on that. They're the same size and all that.

I love that you're totally missing the clear and obvious point.
You control them now... so the camera moves behind them.

That is what I'm saying - controlling them stinks because they take up so much screen that you can't even see the enemy you're attacking when you use them. So it's better off just sitting back and healing them while they do whatever mediocre thing they do.

Are we on the same page now?

Perhaps I am still missing the point. Nothing forces you to lead with the Esper. The summoner can still be the party leader, and therefore the camera anchor - same as with just the party. Just because you can issue commands to the Esper doesn't mean you have to have it be the party leader. You CAN make it the leader IF YOU WANT, but nothing forces you to - meaning it's a strict upgrade over the old way.

Yes, we are still not on the same page. Somehow.

To issue commands through the Esper you have to control the esper... so you literally make the Esper the party lead, fumble through the menu for the attacks you want to queue, and then let the attacks play out.
In that time, you are staring at the giant backside of whichever esper, and can barely see anything on the screen - which is why I'm saying it's worthless to 'control them' or 'issue commands' as them, when they can do it themselves fine and you can sit back and just heal them.

This is the strangest discussion I've ever been a part of.

Except none of that is true.

Just like with a regular party, you can issue commands by simply pressing left/right to switch to the Esper's commands window. You do NOT have to make it the party leader to issue commands any more than you need to make party members leaders to do so.

You're telling me. It seems you were unaware of an elementary control function of the game. No wonder you were confused.

Oh...oh my god do you think you can only issue commands to the character you are in direct control of? Say you are playing as Ashe, and summon up an esper. You stay as ashe, and issue commands while controlling her. Like you played through the whole game without just pressing left or right?
