Quickening buttons with keyboard/mouse setup not controller
Hi and thanks in advance for your help.

I got the Mist and the first quickening for Vaan. I go and use it and a quicktime style limit break looking attack comes up which is great. But the only button that is shown here is Left Cntl which seems to shuffle something. Once I got an option to Press R, and then it repeated itself and gave me the option for R again. But most times no button is prompted and it just ends without doing anything. I'm VERY EARLY game right AFTER getting the Second Hunt quest. BTW I have tried pressing R when it's not prompted and it doesn't seem to do anything at all.

I press F9 for the onscreen keyboard and there are no buttons labeled for Quickening or Mist. There is no in game guide on how to execute these quickenings yet.

I am utterly confused. I tried recording it and replaying it to see whether I missed any prompts and I did not. The time just runs out and it shows the first quickening without prompting for button presses.

I googled "Final Fantasy The Zodiac for Windows PC Quickening Button guide." and believe it or not, not even a SINGLE search comes up for it.

Can someone please tell me what the buttons are for the quickenings? And can they be pressed anytime or you would need to get prompted for them. And if you don't get prompted does that mean that you just wasted a limit break or MIST GAUGE???

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, shuffle should be your Run/Flee key - that is Left CTRL I hope?

If you have 3 characters on your list trying to use a Quickening, the top should be your party menu key, the bottom should be the talk/command/accept button, and the middle character should be.... your battle menu key.

Keep in mind, unless each character has BOTH an active Mist charge AND a Quickening prompt, you wont be able to hit the key you want until you shuffle enough for a prompt to appear.

I only have Vaan in my party right now.. I was just grinding. No party members yet. So I got his first Quickening. But the prompts for the button don't pop up alot. So are you saying I have to KEEP SHUFFLING until I get a prompt? And then it showed the R key when the prompt came up. And when I pressed it he did a limit bread kind of move and another prompt came up to press R AGAIN, and I believe a 3rd time and then the limit break looked totally different. But that prompt doesn't come up at all alot and afterwards it just says MISSED. Is that how it's supposed to work???? I have to keep pressing Left CNTL to shuffle UNTIL I get a prompt for a button and THEN I press SAID BUTTON, and THEN KEEP RESHUFFLING until I get ANOTHER PROMPT and so forth??

BTW doesn't the game have some kind of IN-GAME tutorial for this?? They usually explain new mechanics in all FFs. And if it does is it maybe not showing up because I am at the VERY BEGINNING of the game where you first see the Consul, and you get your second Hunt, and only have Vaan in the party?

Thanks

I don't think the game ever has a very clear tutorial on how quickenings work, they're pretty confusing.

At the point you're at in the game you won't really be able to chain more than one quickening together, they're meant to be used when you have a full party of members capable of doing them, then you can exhaust all their charges by chaining multiple quickenings together, and shuffle to regain charges and chain even more. You really shouldn't worry about it at that point of the game.
