Damage inconsistent?
Ive been playing this through for quite a bit but ive noticed something and I cant find a genuine answer for it.

a simple example is say > there is a wolf. for this example lets say it has 100HP > Vaan will deal 100HP DMG to it. but sometimes he will deal 37 DMG or even 1 DMG for no real reason.

I dont understand whats causing this to happen for me? is it just a dice roll within an regional area of DMG? or is it a mechanic im missing?

Some weapons are like that. Axes, Hammers, and Bombs do that kind of random damage. I'm assuming your using one of those weapons for Vaan.

I am, will it fix itself or should I simply change it? because idk if im that big of fan of occasionally getting a 3-hit combo on an enemy and not killing it when at normal damage id kill it in one hit :/

Lol, I hate those those weapons too. No, it will not fix itself. That is a part of how those weapons work. It's mostly luck based. Sometimes you'll get powerful hits, sometimes weak hits.

hm.. well can it still be considered viable or if I want to be a foebreaker should I just wait to eventually spec into another weapon type? or is the axe/hammers in the game viable still and still fair game as a weapon as long as you are willing to sacrifice consistent damage?

Most weapon types in FFXII have a distinct way of dealing damage. All the Foebreaker weapons (axes, hammers, bombs) have a formula that involves highly random damage. They're mostly pretty bad, except for Vrscika if you craft it ASAP - it takes some work, but it can be made in the midgame and is quite powerful then. Unfortunately it is still random and it tapers off in power after a while so even that top-tier weapon isn't really a good endgame choice.

If you're using a Foebreaker you're likely better off using weapons from a different job with it.

good to know. kinda depressing though since I actually have been waiving off the generic sword hype I used to have and have been appreciating axes/hammers and such a lot more in games of recent.

last question if you will? > is there a mod that fixes this at all? I would personally like to use the axes and hammers but at the current moment (for a lack of better words) it appears that they are crap. if there is a mod that simply disables the randomness or even balances it out to maybe like idk 50% -150% instead of 0% - 150% that would be great.

I can already tell that I get weaker attacks way more often than average or strong ones. I dont mind not being overpowered since this is my first playthrough I just want to enjoy it. I just dont wanna be forced to play the meta so to say

I can heartily recommend the Struggle for Freedom mod. It has a lot of rebalancing, especially with an eye towards underrepresented weapons/spells.

In the case of the Foebreaker, it replaces the axe/hammer formulas with the more consistent sword formulas, so the damage is no longer random. Bombs are gone entirely, and are replaced by knuckle-type weapons that scale with both STR and SPD (like daggers do) but retain the ability to switch out different "ammo" types (claws) to take on various properties. Foebreaker is one of the better jobs in that mod.

eh ill look into it, does it have options to enable and disable certain things? because take in mind my first playthrough i kinda wanna keep it as vanilla as possible (im using mods but they are mostly ascetic and a few various life improvement mods)

It is modular in the sense that it allows you various choices for what license board to use - I personally use it with the unchanged TZA ones, so they're the same as unmodded. Works absolutely fine.

Most other options aren't modular; however I personally consider it a practically unequivocal improvement over the original.

It's up to you, of course. Personal preference always comes first.

interesting. I mean literally the only change I really want want at the moment is the randomness elements getting removed/rebalanced in weapons. everything id like to save for another playthrough.

I guess my only issue is its a HUGE list of changes to pretty much the entire game. and then the singular thing I want from the mod. >_> you'd think since the randomness element of the foebreaker weapons are so bad someone would have made a mod to specifically change just that alone.

Maybe they have, idk. Search Nexusmods or something? Could well be that someone had the same thought.

Axes, hammers and bombs. These weapon types deal random damage values. To increase the consistency, make use of vitality increasing gear with it.
