You can get around this by making different trial saves, for example if you are stuck at the judgdes or some other hard boss, you can make different trial saves to play normally until you want to try the harder save again. Of course both files will be different there is no way to merge multiple trial games. Basically, you'll wanna get as much done as possible in trial mode before you ever wanna start the normal game up again. Once you have proceeded as much as you can then merge that progress with your normal game.
Trial mode is good for job points, item farming, and stealing. You can get some of the rarest gear from pots, and from steals if you're lucky. But the main reason most will probably wanna play it is to beat the 5 judges, one of the judges is exclusive to FF12 trial mode and wasn't in the original story mode (except in story and cutscenes, you never got to fight her).
Hope this explanation helps, trial mode really has to be beat or retired in one go, if you make different trial saves its no different than making different story saves. All you can really do is merge your trial mode save with the story save. And when you do, the trial mode is concluded.
Until you start again that is.
But I don't think you can import a story save on top of a prexisting trial save, so yea you will have to restart trial mode. Basically I think what you are asking is if you can use a new story save on your current trial progress? If that is what you're asking then no you cannot, if you want to play with your new levels from story mode you will have to start trial over.
Hope this helps.
Also keep in mind that when you are finished with trial mode, at whatever level, you will have to load up the red trial save through the story file menu. Or you will miss out on your trial items and gains.
Its not a new plus game like that, you can only use whichever game file you're currently playing. And in trial mode you can use whichever story game file you load up, and when you're done with trial, whether you win, or decide to quit at lvl 2 (you don't have to play to a save checkpoint, you can load the red autosave for trial mode the same way) you keep whatever bp, or items you find, as well as bestiary.
But yea it doesn't accumulate through different games or anything. Its basically just a lot of survival levels that you can beat for bp and items, that you can then take to storymode.
sorry agai to abuse of your time
No time abuse, happy to help other ff fans, just only use 1 file as trying to save over multiples will just mess up your progress as Kayderim says.
But of course you can use a different trial save to try a level again, such as a multiple save at the judges if you just want to fight them again.
