vaan and penelo never get any real character devleopment

fran sortof does but she is also garbage

the only REAL characters are

Basche, Balthier and Asche.

i get the whole reks is not well and sitting in a wheelchair.. but like

why can't we visit him? did he die? and wtf was with the "yay im a sky pirate now" at the end. like ok? he barely even talks about it the whole game. a bit at the start and a bit at the end

penelo has a few "me too vaan-kun" moments but htats it. she has 0 development.

Balthier gets a whoel chapter and is constnatly engaged in everything

Basch and Asche are deeply iontertwned in the story

Vaan/Penelo reasons for existing are unimportant and the game could have survived wihtout them being in it.

Fran is just fanservice and is Balthier's pet

I'd say you missed the point. They do matter and have a place. They're not "important", but they also are, that's the point of FFXII's story, that those in power and those who aren't are equally important to have a thriving society. Vaan is the one who helps everyone come together (even if it's not completely intentional, he's still the bridge, otherwise the party would not have formed), and serves as a reminder to think of the little guy, while Penelo being captured led to her communication with Larsa which helped him see the error of his brother's ways and set in motion the events that would ultimately be Vayne's downfall. They're unsung heroes, more or less.

About Reks, though, he was dead, like absolutely dead, I feel the "wheelchair" scenes in the white room were just extraplanar vision of the afterlife, more or less.

Vaan becoming a sky pirate at the end was him finally being able to pursue his dreams with the political conflicts being over. And Penelo, well, she could get back to leading a quiet life like all she ever wanted, while supporting Vaan doing whatever it is he wants to do.

well clearly you believe in Vaan and Penelo right to live. I vote for the death (mod replacer) penalty. and I will vote with my game directory once the mod(s) is(are) available :D

I'll take fan service characters over whatever Vaan is supposed to be. Vaan's literally just along for the ride with no real role to play other than being another annoying loudmouthed youth protagonist.

As for Panelo, I got nothing against her. Her character was a lot better than Vaan's.

Vaan and Penelo are "the player". The story is seen from their perspective. It's true : Bash, Balthier et Ashe are the main "heroes" and Vaan and Penelo are simple commoners and that's why, from my point of view, this choice is brilliant. I'm maybe the only one who will never complaint about both of them...

(I'm also that type of player who like every FF so far, XIII included)

I read somewhere that Bash was supposed to be the main protag, but that SE decided to put in Vaan because he'd be more "relatable" to a younger audience. Can't say he really is, but that explains why Vaan feels tacked on; He literaly IS!

And about his charcter design, yeah, I always tough he looked wierd walking around with only that silvery vest thingy as a top. At least Fran's outfit can be explained in that "skimpy" is basically the Vieras' defining wardrobe atribute :P

I do wish they had updated Vaan's design to match his later appearence in FFTA2. Good call on the shirt guys. Penelo's upgrade was nice too now that I think about it...
