How do you get the license tiles off the board?
Something do with esper's I googled but I didn't quite understand. I also read something about having to be careful which quickening/esper tiles you use because it can erase some on the other board or something?

You can only use espers on one character, and quickenings are in certain spots on the board- after the 3rd you might lock yourself out of certain liscenses (Ex. Don't get the quickening by Ninja Swords 1 if you want the better weapons).

Espers - there's 13 Esper licenses in total. Each becomes available as you defeat the respective Esper in the game. 5 of them you will defeat during the story progression. The other 8 are optional bosses, waiting for you to discover them in the world. Each Esper license can only be taken ONCE, by one single character. Once you take the license on that character, it will disappear from all other characters' license boards (it will activate on both license boards for the character that activates it, though). This means that some rewards that are connected to only through a particular Esper will only be available to ONE character - you have to choose which character you want to have that bonus.

Quickenings - every character has a total of FOUR Quickening licenses on each of their license board, with values of 50 LP, 75 LP, 100 LP, and 125 LP. HOWEVER you can only ever activate THREE OF THE FOUR Quickenings on a single character. It will be activated on both license boards at the same time, but it will only ever be THREE in total, and once you activate the third, the fourth will disappear. Like Espers, Quickenings can form connections to isolated tiles, and if you pick three Quickenings you risk losing access to tiles connected to the fourth. For most jobs, this won't be super relevant, as Quickenings don't always connect to anything, and if they do, it's often fairly low power. However, the Shikari job has ALL of their Ninja Swords licenses behind Quickenings, including Ninja Swords 4, which includes the ultimate weapons for that category. If you pick the wrong 3 Quickenings, you risk losing access to the top-tier Ninja Swords forever. Make sure you plan ahead!

If you want an easy overview of what you can get on which character, you can look at the party planning spreadsheet[docs.google.com].

Uh....quickenings do NOT isolate tiles unless you actually activate all three quickenings (and if you're not using a Shikari board and that happens, ur doin it rong)

Well yeah. Just like Espers don't isolate tiles, unless you activate them.

That's sort of the point.

Well the esper-locked ones aren't connected to the rest of the board before you defeat them, however, whereas the quicking-locked ones aren't (which your post seemed to have implied), that's more what I was saying.

Okay, but how is that relevant though. Are you just nitpicking my wording? Because it has no relevance in gameplay, you still only get whatever you activate. The fact that tiles are connected by Quickening nodes that aren't activated doesn't matter, because you can only get there by, you know, activating them. Or circumventing the bridge by activating adjacent tiles on another board, which works exactly the same for Espers as well, so duh.

I feel stupid. I still don't understand how to get the off-board tiles.

What you need is a tile to connect to those isolated tiles.

In most cases, this will be filled by an Esper license. As soon as you defeat an Esper, their license will appear on all license boards. It will always appear in the same place, and for many jobs, this will be a slot connecting to previously isolated tiles.

As soon as you activate an Esper license, you can then reach the (previously unconnected) tiles. HOWEVER you can only active each respective Esper on one single character. The license will disappear from all other characters once activated. So, you can pick one character to reach those off-the-board tiles, but won't be able to get them on others. That's some of the choices you have to make.

At the very very beginning of the game, there are also a number of unconnected tiles that you will be able to reach once Gambit tiles appear on the board. This is about 30 to 60 minutes into the game or so, after the Gambit tutorial; so don't worry about off-the-board tiles until then. Only the tiles that are isolated after that will be Esper-related.

My point was that if you look at a licence board, you see titles off the board, which is what the OP was reffering to. Quickenings have nothing to do with these. I don't know why this is so hard to understand.

Learn to READ.
Cause hinyu already explained it - ALL tiels are connected. Some are behind quickenings, some are behind Espers. But the Espers tiels only show up after you defeat and unlock them - and vanish again after they are used.

Think I get it now! Thanks bud.

if there is a space then its either a quickening or an esper. Using them on one character blocks them on others. thats it, choose wisely.

....except as I was saying, there's only a space related to a quicking if you've already used all three. And if this happens and the board isn't the shikari board, then you messed up.

semantics. TYhe point is those two "block" access and there are finite uses of them in terms of the espers. Thats what they asked. Thats the answer. And a simple google search will not only tell you this but also optimal classes per character and which character in which class should use which esper. But here we are.
