How do you guys normally use an archer/redmage?
Okay i was able to get my hands on the burning bow (after farming those damned birds), and since its a decent weapon i suppose il start using fran (my archer/RM), my question is, how do you normally use an archer/RM? do you equip it with robes or light armor? do you need to center on magic usage or bow dps?

It truely depends on your level and situation.

In my case I have two characters that are Red Mages and are another specific mage yet they can deal roughly around 3-4K damage per hit.

In your case Red mages benefit from using magic robes and such. But Bow damges is heavily based on STR and Speed, so more speed is benefical to them, so I say pick armor that gives you a speed boost and magic boost along with accessories that give you addtional speed.

You don't NEED to do anything, it's up to you how you WANT to play it.

Without heavy armor or damage augments like Focus/Adrenaline, physical damage won't be amazing. Most of the time you're probably better off casting the most powerful fire spell you have, to take advantage of the +50% fire damage from the bow. Support spells as always, of course. At endgame, you will probably just be casting Ardor as much as possible. Use Oil beforehand on any target that will live long enough for it to matter, it's +100% fire damage.

If you do want to get physical, that's always an option, of course. Get as much strength and speed as you can (both increase bow damage), equip Fiery Arrows, and cast Oil on the target. Against fire immunes you can also equip other elemental arrows, and possibly a better bow (depending on where you are at in the game).

Personally, I've never liked Archer/Red Battlemage and was much happier just going full spells with Black Mage/Red Battlemage, using Flamestaff to boost my fire damage (and other staves for other elements). But much of that is probably personal preference.
Archer Red Mage?
Better off as Archer Foebreaker

after trying out the classes on my first attempt, I learned to drop black mage, red mage, and time mage like a bad habit. Managing MP is a colossal pain given how stingy the game it with ethers. Even my healbot doesn't start working until an ally is a <30% because 40 was causing me to run out of MP too quickly.

Yes i think the turtleshell chocker is the solution to all MP problems, you just need to use the cat ears to pre-farm a lot of money XD

Self: Mp < 10% ---> Charge

You can get ethers from the clan provisioner. You can also get syphon from the provisioner too.

It makes a good multitool character that has a good spot no matter what other two characters you put with it. I picked it for my recent run and liked it, nothing crazy, but useful and fun to use. I’m always a sucker for red mage though.

Just FYI...
Burning bow is available pre-raithwall via the white mousse hunt, I keep seeing people talk about farming birds for it...White mousse is vulnerable to sleep which makes an easy fight at any level.

Later on germinas boots add quite a bit to bow dps if you need more physical support.

My Archer/Redmage wears mystic armor/burning bow and generally uses the gambits:

1) target with lowest health : attack
2) 2+ targets : Fira (dont have Ardor yet)
and some useful utility gambits

The two damage characters easily take out any single targets with "auto attack" and the Archer/RdM destroys multi target encounters.

Pre-raithwall? i just came back from doing the tomb and the mark bill does not appear at the board, do i have to complete some hunts before i have access to it?

Seeing as Red Mage/Archer gets light and mystic armor best gear for damage is going to be mystic and the spells. Maybe with gambits that target an enemies weakest defense for standard attacks.

You are basically building around the burning bow's bonus to fire damage for later on, meaning fire arrows as ammo and fire spells.
