Machinist/Red Mage - for an obscenely powerful offensive mage who can also help with healing when needed.
Black Mage/Monk - for when you can't decide whether to use staffs to hit or cast magic since it does about the same damage xD
Archer/White Mage - so that you can easily heal and deal damage without moving a bit.
Knight/Time Mage - Great all rounder, can tank, heal, buff, debuff and still deal decent damage.
Bushi/Foebreaker - Deeps... just deeps... and still more deeps. And even then some more deeps. Did I mention deeps?
Oh, just as a note, you can have multiple characters using the same job, so don't be afraid to have multiple Bushi or White Mage etc.

Knight/Bushi - Bash/Balthier
Foebreaker/Shikari - Balthier/Bash
White Mage/Machinist - Penelo/Ashe
Black Mage/Monk - Ashe/Penelo
Red Mage/Archer - Fran/Vaan
Uhlan/Time Mage - Vaan/Fran
Good synergies all around.
Shikari/Foebreaker - Vaan (Tanky boy who can dish out nice dmg)
Bushi/Knight - Basch (So that you can furhter improve katana damage with heavy armor)
Uhlan/Time Mage - Balthier (Good support with nice dmg capability)
Black Mage/Red Mage - Ashe (Nuff said, she just blowing everyone and everything)
Black Mage/Monk - Penelo (Same as Ashe but a little tougher and have less utility)
Machinist/White Mage - Fran (Guns dmg are not affected by stats and paired with mystic armor she can heal incredibly good while being able to do some damage aswell)
I mix them every now and then for a different situations so i have answers for any battles that game throws at me.
shikari > mystic armor job for yagyu combo.
white mage > if this is your dedicated support, probably shikari with main gauche+shield for super evade
black mage > anything you want
bushi > pair with job that have adrenaline/focus and lots of battle lore
red mage > archer for burning bow ardor bonus
archer > unlock heavy armor access with esper. pair with jobs that have more battle lore
time mage > anything you want. this job is leaning toward support so you can use it as magic/melee/support/tanker depending on the other pair
machinist > pair with jobs that uses heavy armor for extra str
breaker > break specialist and many battle lore and focus/adrenaline and heavy armor access. pair with job that can benefits from said licenses
uhlan > spear can reach flying enemy and access to heavy armor/battle lores/focus/adrenaline. pair with something that can benefits from said licenses
monk > pole also can reach flying enemy. can act as backup white mage caster with quickening/esper unlock. access to 16 battle lore. pair with job that need this (bushi)
Vaan: Archer/Foebreaker
Balthier: Shikari/Red Battlemage
Fran: Machinist/Uhlan
Basch: Knight/Bushi
Ashe: Red Battlemage/Black Mage
Penelo: Black Mage/Time Battlemage
Party focuses on maximum power at most stages of the game. Early game you have Archer and Machinist for their absolutely absurd damage; Burning Bow and Arcturus are both available before Raithwall and can deal fire damage which is boosted by Oil. Shikari/Red Battlemage is arguably the best tank, and will carry most of the midgame. Black Mages will provide boosted damage (Flame Staff available right away) and obliterate anything AoE. And endgame you have Knight/Bushi for Excalibur + White Robes which is unparalleled physical damage, and Shikari/Red Battlemage for Yagyu Darkblade + Black Robes as a Yiazmat killer.
It's possible Monk could be substituted somewhere, perhaps Monk/Time Battlemage instead of a second Black Mage, or a combo with access to Genji equipment. I personally prefer spells because of AoE, but a Monk with Kanya + Genji Gloves is only very slightly behind other top physical damage dealers like Kumbha.
White Mage I find mostly redundant because so many other classes gain access to white magick with the right combo and/or Esper. Heck Knight alone gets most spells.
