Difficulty - FF12 PC Weak Mode vs FF12 PS2
Hello,
My question is has anyone played both Original FF12 and the new PC Version in weak mode and can compare the difficulties? I've seen a lots of streamer just casuallty walking through the content often 1-3 shotting mobs which should be 3-6 shot without any powerfarming and even all upgradable gear from your regular merchant which doesn't really suit my taste

It depends on what portion of the game you are at. Naturally the higher you go the more difficult things become. But if you stack the right equipment, it's still fairly easy.

I'm hoping for some difficulty to be added down the line with modding.

Weak mode still isnt that difficult, considering you still have access to liscenses. All of the equipment still is the same, so you get good defense and stat bonuses. Also considering most weak mode players use at least one gun character, so you always have consistant damage. Could always run around with an Indigo pendant and abuse time mages too

Weak mode is definitely more difficult but without spending too much time on detail, I'll just say that it's not balanced in a very satisfying way. Several classes are almost completely useless except as focus/adrenaline/last stand buffs for the classes that aren't.

It's more challenging than a normal run but, in my opinion, not the 'fun' kind of challenge that makes effective use of all of the games available tools. I think a lot of us are hoping that mods will eventually add a more interesting brand of difficulty to the game.

I haven't played through the New Game - but i'm assuming all it does is doesn't give you any XP. If you still get LP however, the game will be a cakewalk because the new License boards are chuck full of HP boosts that trivialise any difficulty the original game had. Playing through the game normally i had more HP by the time i got to Bhujerba than i had in the entirety of the original FF12.

Amen, brother! This game could REALLY use some serious buffs on enemies for the more hardcore-oriented players.

I seem to recall from the PS2 original version someone attempting to beat the game at the lowest level possible and without using the license board outside of getting the firefly accessory for its xp null effect. Don't recall if they ever finished the game, but there was lots of grinding for motes/knots of rust for sure.

2 new difficulties would be nice - one similar to original difficulty and another more difficult than that for those up for a challange

I played the 1,2,2,3,3,3 challenge on the original ff12, i’d say the first half of the challenge is difficult on the original than the zodiac age because you can freely kill anything without leveling up to upgrade your license.

The 2nd half would be when you get nihopaloa and fomalhaut for your party, everything becomes easy in the original, wheras you cannot get these item in zodiac age early and makes it a little bit difficult.

Tbh, both versions are really easy in whatever mode you play them.

A total rebalance is needed to present some resemblance of challlenge.

Correct. New Game - is just 122333 that people did in the normal game, just without having to slap a Ribbon (to prevent EXP gain) permanately on your characters as it turns off EXP gain.

The major problem with doing a 122333 run in this outing is the job system. If you don't get the HP + skills, you'll start getting hit by a truck repeatedly in the early-mid game. Some jobs simply DO NOT have those and have things like "magic power up" and "faster ATB bar time" over those. So it makes the "class" choices a bit more interesting and interactive, but the game isn't necessarily "hard" on New Game -/122333 if you've played the game before.

The 122333 is easily do able with licenses, but I did mention the ones doing both the 122333 as well as a no license board challenge. Went and looked into that. Evidently all but Chaos and a couple of bestiary entries were done this way, even without the use of the Firefly accesory. And there are or were YT videos of many of the kills Only license that is absolutely mandatory is Belias.

Now gonna have to look if there is a job board that gives easy Belias access to maybe try this myself at some point on NG- if get the feeling of spending a ton of hours on it.
