For example Vaan's quickenings are 1) Red Spiral, 2) White Whorl, and 3) Pyroclasm. Those quickenings in that order will never change. Some boards have more than three quickenings on them, and it's advisable to buy the licenses that have other licenses trapped behind them if given the choice.
This is the part I'm confused about. I found a google sheet people are using to plan out their characters, but it's not clear to me what the opportunity cost is of selecting specific quickening slots on my first license board.
For example, I have Vaan going through the bushi board, and plan to select knight as his second job. There's nothing locked behind his first quickening slot on the bushi board nor on the first three slots of the knight board. So does that mean I need to skip the first slot, so that the three I select will open all three locked licenses on bushi and also the fourth slot on knight?
I guess I'm just confused about how the two boards interract with one another in regard to quickenings once I get to select a second job, and I'd rather not wait until I have two boards before I start using quickenings.
So let’s say for vaan, you unlock a quickening 50 LP red spiral on your first board, that same quickening 50 LP on the second board also unlocks, so whatever behind that thing can be unlocked...
each board has 4 quickening slot, but can only unlock 3 per character. So there could be a case where it is impossible to get all of the license behind one of the quickening license
You can distinguish the Quickenings by their LP cost. Same LP cost means same node.
If you know what type of character you want Vaan to be you can look at both License-boards and see what licenses are behind his QuickeningSkills there.
If the license for 50 AP does not have a license behind either boards then simply don't get it.
With quickenings and Espers you haev to choose which extra licenses you want to get.
Some expers give you virtually nothing, others are key to unlocking some good extra abilities on multiple chlasses.

Copy it to your google drive. Then you can select the jobs you have or intend to have for your characters. After that the list will show exactly which quicknenings unlock what lisences for both classes, helping you to decide what you should get.
I was able to get a copy of the google spreadsheet and I find it very helpful when selecting what jobs I should assign to my party.
