that looks nice. well, the idea at least (i dont like the fonts used in the examples). comic sans or similar should remain part of dialogues, and maybe a similar font to the new one chosen by dev used could remain for menus if he (or she) can find a less distracting (less decorated) version (ie, one without the "o"s, "q"s and "g"s, etc, with a line in the middle; maybe dev could actually make a unique version, based on that font or a similar with a "free for all" creative commons license).
the improved (upscaled?) textures look very good. maybe they could eventually be polished to appear "seemless"
it seems the preview video has been removed, which i hope was done by the dev, rather than a copyright troll.
thats not a bad thing. in fact, is a great step in the right direction to "bring back the name from the grave".
a fan made remaster can later become the best option to play it; just check the quality of the silent hill 2 remaster made also by fans. since vagrant story can be considered abandonware, just like the original version of silent hill 2 was, and still is, then it should also allow more people to appreciate the game, and then maybe lead to a (hopefully) proper, faithful and accurate ("modern audience" or "offensive content removed for modern sensibilities" bs free) remake.
Lots of official remasters/remakes have been carried out thanks to the interest that fan-made versions have aroused, such as the case of Resident Evil 2 Remake, which Capcom knocked down a fan-remake to make their own (and it worked out well for them).
also the metroid 2 remake, which thankfully should still be possible to find somewhere, even after nintendo shot it down.
for many people in those companies, many games are just like "old trash", until someone cares to pick one up, restore it, and then take advantage of their work.
That's another very clear example, Nintendo knocked down all the download links they could of the fan-remake because they knew it was high quality and led them to make their own (in this case in collaboration with Mercury Steam).
i think thats what that annoys them the most. "how someone dares to offer this level of quality for free! ...my precious" lol
i hope someone figures out how to make "hd sprites" for chrono trigger, and maybe even better, someone does something similar to what the metroid 2 remake solo dev (or team? i forgot) did: remain silent until the last minute, so the v1 of a fan made remake can remain forever in internet. then, a proper remake of that game maybe could actually happen.
squenix hardly cares about the ivalice games, and the most recent ports and "pseudo-remakes" have been mediocre at best, and poorly promoted.
and then, additional to that, they have wasted a lot of resources in the "quantity over quality" approach, making multiple mediocre or worse games, and rarely investing properly in something that "accidentally" (ie hiring devs that care about quality for a new project) becomes good.
imo, squenix is in a very bad place, and has been for a long time, similar to konami and for similar reasons: their heads not longer actually care much about investing in quality: they must believe is less riskier to make as many games as possible, even if mediocre, to keep sales, but in the long run it has become evident that only decreases trust and therefore reduces the amount of sales of every new game.
Lets all just download skyrim and start working on a open source fan remake already lol
i dont know how complicated that could be, but maybe, if viable, imo it could be better with the recent witcher 3 level editor.
the witcher 3 is usually cheaper when under discount, and in gog is possible to buy the game with its own installer, so that could prevent issues with unexpected updates (even if skyrim is probably never getting something new, lol). also, the game is very efficient with resources and can run in almost potato hardware, and still look good.
also, like skyrim, many textures and objects could work to recreate the maps, even if a few things should be added for accuracy. Then, some "coding wizard" would need to transform the combat system, into something more "turn based" to recreate or make something close to the original vs "combo system"... but, i think maybe it could work. and ashley should have his black coat as optional, from the beginning (im not a fan of his normal outfit, or the fact that it never changed even when new stuff was available).
dont know what you think, but the idea begins to look attractive, lol.
not sure about that, if you consider the kind of "dei, esg, etc" related changes they are beginning to push in their games.
at the very least, probably, ashley riot would be converted into an openly gay character, as well as any of the other male characters.
female side characters somehow would become not only more aggresive and stronger, but also their models would look more masculine.
and obviously, any "hetero normative" dialogues would be changed. the lore would be changed, if done by present day squenix, unless they would need to compete to a fan made remake that delivers and satisfies most of the expectations about the expected level of accuracy of a "proper remake".
A door is locked, but i don't know how to open it, and i don't know if it's what i need to do to progess ...
