I don't think they put any AO shader for this version.
It's in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ options.
It's optimized fine. It's just the default settings are a little too generous. People complaing about out of sync audio. I had the same issue. Checked the default settings. 4K resolution with 8x AA. Well no **** it's out of sync. It's 4K, you don't "need" 2x AA let alone a massive 8x on that resolution. 2x is noticeable... barely... at 1440p, "anything" higher is not. Especially at 4K. For most people, turn off the top AA setting and change the post processing to FXAA and the game will look just as good, but perform flawlessly. You just need to do some due diligence and configure the game to suit your system. The default configuration settings are just going to be way too high, even for a high end system.
The game seems to apply the same default graphics values regardless of the resolution you launch the game with. So if you are using a higher resolution monitor, then you need to go into the graphics options and turn down the settings you don't need when on a higher resolution monitor.
The 3 settings that will have the most impact in overall performance with the least impact on visual quality when using a higher than 1080p resolution monitor are:
Anti Aliasing - Huge impact on performance. At 1080p you will want some AA applied up to about 4x, 8x is just gravy, but barely noticeable, so not absolutely needed. At 1440p, you should never need more than 2x, but you'd struggle to notice a difference with this off or on. At 4K, same as 1440p with a heavy leaning to not needing any at all.
Post Processing - FXAA is fine. It's a good post processing effect with very little performance impact. I can't tell the difference in visual quality between SMAA and FXAA in this game. But FXAA should be a little less intensive on the system.
Shadows - This one actually has a significant impact on performance in my testing. Drop it down to 1024x1024 to get a significant increase in performance. Especially if you have a GPU with 4GB of VRAM or less. Visually, I couldn't see any graphical quality difference between 1024 shadows and 2048. So use 1024 and gain yourself some extra frames.
Ambient Occlusion - This one has a drastic impact regardless of the whether you use the full or half resolution settings. You should seriously consider disabling this.
Depth of field - Significant impact on performance, but not as bad as AO.
Anisotropic Filtering - This one surprised me. Normally in most games this setting has virtually no impact in performance. But surprisingly, it has a considerable impact in this game. If you are having performance issues, I recommend lowering this setting to 4x.
60 fps, AO, msaa
your convictions are amazingly strong.
