Quite poor performance on 1080p...
CPU: i5 4690
GPU: R9 290 (latest drivers: 18.2.1)
RAM: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz
OS: Windows 10 64-bit
Resolution: Borderless 1920x1080 (144hz monitor, 60fps frame limit in-game)
Installed on HDD

Nearly a 4-year old build now but still a decent PC and should definitely be able to easily smash 60fps for this game. I remember the GTX 6xx series in the past could emulate FFXII on PC super easily and upscaling it as far as 10k. Now I'm here struggling to get 60fps on 1080p.

All settings are on max except for
MSAA: None
FXAA
Ambient Occlusion: Half-Resolution
Depth of Field: Off

Even with these graphical setting tweaks, I'm still susceptible to low 50s in Rabanastre. If I had MSAA on 4x and all those ^ options enabled I'd be hitting mid 40-45fps in the area. With this performance the frame pacing is also erratic, making for a jerky and unsteady experience.

Please let there be optimisation patches SE 🙃

yeah the problem is in Rabanastre. I have drops to 54 fps as well on a GTX 950. But the framerate stayed at perfect 60 fps on further areas like Dalmasca Estersand, Lown Town, Giza Plains, Village, Nalbina Fortress etc

I guess Rabanastre really is demanding ( or unoptimized) for 60 fps. I'll see how it performs on the next city hub

the game is badly optimized, there was a reason that the developers recommended higher specs and they knew that.

Yeah my FPS got slaughtered in Rabenastre. Honestly I could get almost high settings, but then in Rabenastre, low settings with no anti-aliasing. Oh well. I have a cheap GPU(RX560) that works really well with most modern games. It's a fine stand in until I get ahold of another 1060, or maybe a 1070 mini.

I've been reading on other forums that AMD GPUs are not quite up to snuff on optimisation levels as Nvidia cards, quite annoying really.

I have a feeling it's all the player models present on-screen that's causing performance issues in Rabanastre.. I think the other city hubs will have the same issue ):

Buys budget card, is surprised by budget performance. Welp.

I have a 1080 TI and the game lags occasionally. its just badly optimized.

I have to play at low settings at all times to get good fps, (simple AMD card so I'm not shocked) which is fine with me cause I usually play games on lower settings (usually shooters), but the god aweful fps drop in Rabenastre is just insane.

Anywhere else I get a clean 30fps (because I set 30 as the cap) but the fps drops to 15~20 in Rabenastre. Granted, I can understand that the city is large and there are many npcs wandering about, but why in gods name do the high-res, pre-rendered cutscenes also lag? (Or am I wrong in assuming said cutscenes are pre-rendered?)

If you want more better experience then its tom to upgrade your rig.

(Laptop) lol, It's more like, "time to buy a better computer entirely" to be honest.
Aside from Rabenastre, the rest of the game runs fairly smoothly so I can't complain too much.
