FINAL FANTASY XII THE ZODIAC AGE

Texture modification tutorial with VBF Browser
Open the file FFXII_TZA.vbf located in the folder of FFXII with the VBF Browser
Navigate to /gamedata/d3d11/artdata/chr/chara/c10/c1004/tex to get Vaan texture(first one is the texture for the body). Inside the folder c10 are the files for the other characters:
• 1004: Vaan
• 1005: Balthier
• 1006: Fran
• 1019: Basch
• 1021: Ashe
• 1023: Penelo
• 1024: Vossler
• 1025: Reks
• 1026: Larsa
• 1029: Reddas



Copy the texture file to a folder with the ff12-phyre.exe(it is on the package of vbfbrowser, inside the folder \ff12-vbf). Open a command prompt and unpack it with this:
ff12-phyre.exe -u tex_0_clut_0_c1004_clut_1.dds.phyre tex_0_clut_0_c1004_clut_1.dds


Install the Nvidia texture tool for adobe photoshop
https://developer.nvidia.com/nvidia-texture-tools-adobe-photoshop

Open the texture file with adobe photoshop:
Load with default size without mipmaps
Let the color profile as default, edit the file as you want and when done save with the following settings:


Set to 8.8.8.8 ARGB 32 bpp.
Click Mip Map filtering, set to quadratic.
Save.
Command prompt again and do:
ff12-phyre.exe -p tex_0_clut_0_c1004_clut_1.dds tex_0_clut_0_c1004_clut_1.dds.phyre

Now, you need to inject in the place of your original texture with the vbf browser

you don't even have to do all that now. When my "The Zodiac Party Editor" is done you can jsu tswap any main character/Guest for any character or monster in the game with there unique Models, Animations, and Sounds. The Video is Here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4_bbzRFeQg

So I'm having a problem and don't know how to solve it.
I replaced some textures on Penelo, but there is still a lot of contouring remaining. Is this in her model file or something ? Can someone help me fix this ?

it is because the normal map, download this file and inject

i will do a new tutorial explaining how to edit the normal files too, but first i need to do a application to extract the normal dds from phyre and reimporting.

If anyone have expertise in how to use a hexedit, here are the bookmarks for manual extraction and importing of normal maps:

Thank you for the tutorial and the tool itself. I do have a question though. Is it normal for some of the textures to overlap or be cut off? When I try to open the dds files for some of the character faces, I'm seeing things like half an eyeball instead of the full thing.

yeah, the uv of that texture is for high resolution face

I had success on changing character textures but i am unable to do so with map textures. Whatever i do, it exceeds the original file size and it crashes the game (I don't even do much, just painted a few things on the same layer to test it) Does maps require a special way of exporting unlike character textures?
