Is Regen Worth it?
/thread

I've played this game since the PS2 era, but I've never been able to decide whether or not the Regen buff is worth the cast time it takes to inflict. The only good application seems to have a [ally status=sap - Cast regen] gambit, since its inherent value doesen't seem to be worth it in the late game.

You can get regen effect from a Renewing Morion. Outside of that, I don't think it's worth casting.

Ribbon also grants Regen. And I agree, it's fairly useless to cast except to cure Sap, and Esuna cures that just as well and is a one-size-fits-all Gambit to boot.

You could also think it can help to keep your party at full HP more often (without having to cast healing spells for a little amount of missing health) if you want to benefit from the license that provides damage bonus at full health.
other than that i agree with the above posts it 's not really worth it.
Anyway since your party will probably be using ribbons all the time in late game, you'll have a permanent regen.
Ah, a last use i can see in it is when you are making big chains on monsters because you want to be as fast as possible and having a perma regen thanks to the renewing morion (only scenario when i found myself using this gear BTW) will spare you to cast healing spells and keep your party together instead of waiting for your healer left behind and thus not benefit from the levitate spell your time mage is eventually casting on the 2 other characters.

You do like double melee damage with critical HP if you got the license for it. There are advantages for not regening HP. This won't matter much most of the time, but vs those fights where bosses are massive HP sponges, you can stat break them, make them hit for crap, and abuse critical HP damage boosts to take them out quicker. All the quickest Yiazmat kills use that strategy.

I'm at odds with using shear and expose. Kind of feels like it defeats the purpose of the game for me, since it feels like an exploit.

I'd be curious to know if the devs intended this license to be used this way and not only in order to give your party a chance to kill the ennemy in a few less hits when the fight becomes messy.

Ribbon now has innate Regen.

Not usually worth casting, but nice to have on a character with focus / serenity to try and keep them at full health. It's less intensive than constantly utilizing healing spells to do so.

I'd gambit it to counter sap.
