Luckily, the game seems to keep the version of the enemy that you're not supposed to be killing at that point "asleep" most of the time unless you get up close to it and aggro it.
Just make sure to grab Ardor in the teleport maze.
- be on the Shadowseer hunt
- have filled all pedestals on all Subterra levels with the correct number of orbs
- have defeated the Phoenix miniboss
Also they have gun resistance but that's still more damage than any other weapon. Non-elemental spells + gun and you can kill them without an elixir if you really want to (they hit hard though).
I started using turtleshell choker on my whm/time now instead of sage ring. cat ear hoods on the 3 reserve members makes you even more gil than choker will use up as well so you make gil fast at the same time as using it. 3 million mp and rising ... LOL
