A Sandstorm in the Westersand
Minor spoilers ahead!

So, I've been playing this game without the use of a guide, b/c as much as I've been spoiled story-wise, I wanted to figure out the actual game for myself. I've been making good progress, got my characters their second boards (and mostly filled in without clicking the "Max LP" button in the options tab, too) and have gotten up to the point where you're given your second plot-critical greatsword. I decided to take a breather and hunt some marks, get some bestiary entries filled in, level the party so I'd go into the next bit strong.

And then things came to a screeching halt.

See, I killed the Earth Tyrant way, way back. I actually thought I had to, at the time, since I had to get to the north side of the river and the south side was all "sorry, no boats". So I cut through the Westersands, went up the east side, and killed that tusked T-rex before going on my merry way. Turns out I had to do something in the south village to actually progress, come to find, but I digress. Killing the Earth Tyrant, as it turns out, cuts way back on the sandstorms in the Westersand. And there's a particular mark, the Ring Wyrm, that only comes out in the sandstorm. :steamfacepalm:

So I searched online, and found that reportedly the best way to get a sandstorm going was to go between Giza Plain and the Westersand during the rainy period. Two hours of doing this later, and I'm calling it an evening, b/c I didn't see one bit of sandy weather. Am I just woefully unlucky, or is this another "oh, it's a 0.1% chance of X happening"?

I'd really prefer not to have to start from the last save I have from before I killed the big SOB, as it's twenty or so hours back from my latest save, and I was fairly busy in those twenty hours.

Is there a better way to go about doing this?

Edit: changed the name of the plains to be "Giza", not "Ozmone" as I originally had it as.

I'm not sure if it's a typo or not, but it's from Giza Plains to the Westersand during The Rains that gives you the sandstorms, not Ozmone Plain. It's a very good chance, too, often you'll get it on the first try, so if it's not happening, then you are rather unlucky, since it's not a low chance event. You can also have a decent chance at sandstorms coming out of Zertinan Caverns to the Westersand, but Giza Plains during The Rains to the Westersand is the best chance.

Yeah, that's a typo. I meant Giza Plains.

And you say it should be happening? Hmm, I probably had a hundred times back and forth between Giza and Westersand. Do you need to wait a minute between transitions? Because I was just jumping back and forth fast as I could, just sticking around long enough to see if the sandstorm was out. With the Earth Tyrant dead, it's that often?

I'm so glad I killed that mark early on.

Nah, no need to wait, just back and forth should do it. Unless something broke on the PC version, or is related to 60FPS missing the timing (try 30FPS if you haven't already), then it really shouldn't be that difficult to go Giza Plains - The Rains to Westersand and generate a sandstorm. It won't happen with Giza Plains - The Dry, to be sure. You might also try to go save at the Crystal Glade, totally close the game, come back in fresh, and run straight over to the Westersand, and see if that changes anything. I was able to spawn a sandstorm on PS4 to farm Gnoma Entite without any problems, so like I said, unless it's something the PC version did something to, it shouldn't be giving you this much trouble.

If you want a sandstorm in the western desert, your best option is to switch between zertinan cavern and western sand areas until you get it.
It's the fastest way imo, but it can take some time indeed.

Have you tried going to the place the mark shows up at anyway? Because I'm fairly sure that one comes with its own sandstorm.

(Tries it...)

...

...oh what the hell. What the helling hell?! TWO HOURS I - !

(deep breath)

...It worked. There was a sandstorm in the Windtrace Dunes but not anywhere else in the Westersand. The Ring Wyrm is dead, thank you all for your help, it is very much appreciated!

Edit: There's now a sandstorm all across the Westersand. This game is messing with me...
