that is the reddit post
I've used the RNG helper app from Tranquilite0 to great success.
The tool (and source code if you're interested) can be downloaded from GitHub at:
https://github.com/Tranquilite0/FF12RNGHelperPC
For some additional discussion of its usage and limitations, see:

To the comments that suggest, "Why not just use cheat engine, then?" ...
Because there's a BIG difference between programs that READ the memory of another running application (as this one does) and programs that WRITE to that memory. Cheat Engine raises red flags with virus detection software for a good reason. Even if the developer hasn't used that capability in a malicious way (and they seem to have a great reputation, so I'm not implying otherwise), the behavior of the software opens a door for potential abuse, especially as it's designed of necessity to load and execute scripts from various third parties.
That's just too many unknowns and too much potential risk for those of us who are paranoid about safety.
Also, while the FF12 devs, to my mind, set up some of the chest drops to be utterly ridiculous (1 in 10,000? really? who has that kind of time!) ... the ability to just straight-up cheat (e.g., set all chests to appear and contain the rare item 100% of the time) is the kind of zero-effort/zero-investment "cheat" that can easily end up ruining a game experience.
At least for me, the above tool doesn't pose that kind of risk either. .
For example, the first place I bothered to even try it out was on the Cerobi Steppes. Apparently the RNG implementation in Cerobi (and maybe some other places?) isn't amenable to the tool being able to predict WHEN any specific chest will spawn, so you have to rely on random chance for that. But WHEN a 1%, 10%, or 20% (or whatever) chance chest appears, what it DOES do is very accurately tell you the right moment to open it to obtain the item you want. And that window can be VERY tiny -- most chests in Cerobi have an 80% chance of Gil, and the other 20% of the time, as the Diamond Armlet is required, the odds of getting nothing but a Knot of Rust is 95%.
Even with the tool, some planning is required (espcially if the area is populated with mobs). You have to time things right, and the lower the percentage chance, the more patience is required (odds are you'll find yourself waiting around for a bit). It replaces one (entirely unpredictable, time-consuming and EXTREMELY repetetive) challenge with another. The latter is more manageable, to be sure, but not entirely time or effort-free,
All in all, I think it makes for a great time-and-frustration-reducer when faced with a difficult-to-obtain item I REALLY want to try to get, while not being something I'd ever dream of using ALL the time.
That said, I personally haven't tried to use it to get the Seitengrat, at least not yet. By all accounts, the "invisible" gear is pretty game-breaking, and thus intentionally ridiculous to try to obtain by random chance alone. Maybe after I've beaten the game, I might consider trying it out for a lark, though.
