What the hell. If I can't play this with the original difficulty, which wasn't hard hard HARD, just challenging, there's hardly any reason for me to get the ZJS.
Did they actually record a whole new soundtrack? Wow. What for? The original is great and memorable. I know you can still play with it but still.
I was expecting this release for a long time and now I'm bummed. Even more because considering the recent price story of Square Enix in Brazil it's going to be way overpriced. And with Denuvo...
I played with the original soundtrack on the PS4 version. Maybe opinion, but I tried the new one. Original was better.
Visuals are an improvement, but for the pricepoint, not nearly as much as they could be. It's taking a PS2 game and making it an HD PS3 game.
I guess I would call this the "tl;dr" on the review.
Something similar happened with the .hack trilogy releaed on Steam recently, which had some senseless changes to some old standards that really do little to improve any aspect of the game while hurting other aspects substantially and removing what little difficulty or challenge could be found within.
Yes.
ZA is an easier version of IZJS.
IZJS was an easier version of Vanilla.
Easy made easier = way easier than original.
I started playing Vanilla shortly before I got ZA. I went back to Vanilla for a bit after beating ZA. It was like getting kicked in the teeth. And the Original was already easier than previous FFs when it came out. These games keep getting dumber. It's kind of disappointing, but oh well.
Would you recommend playing the Zodiac version on PCSX2 instead of this then? This difficulty tuning really bothers me, and moreso with denuvo.
Just clarifying, I finished this game on PS2 when there wasn't any classes and liked the game a lot, but I never played this updated version. I remember gambits being completely ♥♥♥♥ on the late game lol.
That really suck. I remember the ps2 version being slightly challenging sometimes, that was in fact one of the reasons I liked and got behind this game despite its bad reputation.
Is there by any chance an option to play the original version or at least something not dumbed down twice?
Depends what you want. Original is Normal, IZJS is Easy, ZA is Very Easy. The additional IZJS modes aren't really "new" either. Trials are only OK, they're encounters you do in the game anyway, the only purpose they serve is a trophy/achievement and you can make the game easier by farming Trials to bring gear into the main game before you could get it (or more quantities of gear to spread amongst the party than you could obtain without Trials).
No. It's ZA only.
It's sad, though. In IZJS, the point of Trial Mode was simply the challenge. In TZA, people use it to become ridiculously overpowered for no reason.
