White screen crash

The game keeps crashing just before initiating a boss battle against Cid and Famfrit. Tried changing to borderless mode but the problem still occurs. Does anyone know how to fix this?

i have the same problem, after i beat judge gabranth and he starts to talk bacsh just before cid fight i get white screen instead of cutscene. can't proceed further in game.
i wonder if its possible to get refund after 180hours lol, sucks to play long time to only see that you cannot complete the game because game breaking bug

Might be a corrupted download with missing files? Try verifying file integrity in Steam.

i did that, also uninstalled and reinstalled. spent 3 hours to find information about this and none of the solutions offered works

fixed it, one of these did the job for me.
1. deleted gamesettings file from documents/my games/final fantasy xii zodiac age/bunch of numbers here/
or
2. uninstalled the game and installed it on another drive, in my case i moved it from c:/ (ssd) to d:/ (hdd)
not sure which one did the trick but its working now, damn it took me whole day to fix this mess
edit* do not change your settings at all once you start the game, just run with stock settings till you beat the bosses and you can set them back to what you want

I had the same problem as the OP: Right after Gabranth fight and as the Cid fight is about to begin the game crashes. White screen of death.

I solved it by uninstalling from my C: drive and installing to another drive. My C: drive is an SSD, and I saw some posts claiming FFXII has trouble with SSD's. Who knows? I ran the game at default graphics settings until after that fight, then reinstalled to C: and everything has been fine. Funny that I found my only game-breaking bug almost at the very end.

Shoulda read the post more, they eventually admitted it was caused by something else entirely ;) This is how those weird rumors get spread!

In any event, the error is most likely caused by a faulty download and/or install, so it was probably reinstalling that fixed it rather than WHERE you reinstalled.

i don't think it was faulty install or download, it simply didn't work when it was on my ssd. downloaded and installed it multiple times, also its pretty weird that op, me and StayFrosty all had same crash at the exact same spot

It could be a great number of things. The SSD being at fault is not categorically impossible, but there seems to be little reason for this to be the case - and there's tons of people playing on SSDs without a problem. The one case where someone claimed it was the SSD was later shown to have been something else entirely.

Finding the culprit in these cases can be very tricky. File errors are the most likely suspect in all such crashes simply because it's the most common thing to go wrong - that doesn't mean it has to be the case here, but it's a good assumption given that it always happens in the same spot (i.e. where a particular file would need to be loaded but isn't there/is broken). If something systemic was the problem, it'd be much more likely you'd see crashes in all sorts of places.

Ok so no.1 doesn't work and I'm playing FFXII on my D drive at the beginning, which will also likely not work.

I can confirm that moving it off the SSD to the normal drive let me proceed past the Cid and Famfrit fight. I had the same exact problem with the white screen then crashing right before Cid initiates the fight. I tried deleting the game settings file. That didn't do anything. So I uninstalled and reinstalled on the SSD. That didn't fix it. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled on to my other HDD. It finally let me past the white screen.

Hi, I'm trying to set up FFXII Zodiac Age on Mac via Parallels — however, I cannot get the game to launch, I seem to get the same white screen error. I have tried most solutions suggested across various sites, it seems that the work around is to set your display to portrait. However, that is not possible for me to do using Parallels. Should I just give up?

Uninstalling game from SSD and re-installing on HDD fixed it for me. If anybody else is crashing right before Famfrit fight give this a shot.

before the installation:
go to steam settings>downloads>library folder>click on the + symbol and then choose the drive of your choice
when you then start the installation you can choose the drive you want
btw: i have the game on a ssd and played it completely. without problems
