Remove Config Editing
In case people don't think this is problematic here is a side by side.

There's also people specifically throttling their harddrives so compounds wouldn't load allowing you to see players because buildings won't load.

I know what you mean but my game is not as extremely dark as in your "original" and I only used the normal game options.
I would even go so far and claim that my game is closer to your "Config" than the "original"

Pretty sad that people would do this just to win a video game.

That's my Friend's POV. If I had to guess either his brightness isn't maxed or didn't mess with the settings including Nvidia since he has an old gpu.

So you got the gamma turned all the way up in the settings? I got it where it's 'supposed' to be, and my game looks like the 'original' pic. I think the gamma and brightness settings should be removed from the menu altogether. But obviously that goes for all pvp games, not just Hunt. And it's been an issue since the dawning of pvp games, I remember back in the day with the original Quake, you could start it with some debugging parameter which would only load the textures as extreme low-res, so the game looked like absolute ♥♥♥♥♥ but you got really high fps and could see the player models really clearly. I've always hated how people abuse the graphic options to gain a pvp edge in the game. Devs should pay more attention to preventing that.

ah yes as if its possible to prevent someone opening a file on their desktop and edditing it

only if you could stop cheaters by preventing them from opening cheats from their desktop too...

Yes this is a thing that needs patched only real way to do this is to add some limits to these values (something like sensitivity and maybe fov doesnt need it) but you cant exactly remove desktop functions

People used to do this back in Dead by daylight too and they prevented that ♥♥♥♥ they were typing in their config. Not sure why Hunt couldn't do the same.

Not sure if that'll fix the problem, because even if you won't be able to edit the config files;
There are multiple other ways to increase your brightness/gamma & therefore gain an advantage over someone who uses "recommended settings".

Things like that do exist, & you can never fully prevent people from (ab)using it.

Throttling your harddrive however is another topic, that should be fixed for sure - perhaps by preventing you from playing the game if your write-/read-speed is below a certain number or whatever (not an hardware expert myself, but I am sure they could fix this problem somehow).

But hence Crytek being Crytek, I doubt they intend to fix anything nor do they seem to care in the first place.

This isn't just a simple brightness/gamma setting since this config flat out removes most of the shadows in the game. The tree lines are so damn clear that enemy hunters are way too easy to spot without most of the visual clutter on your perspective.
Sure there are other ways to brighten up the game but IMO it's best to limit their options and in my opinion this is the next best thing after reshade.

Fair enough.

i hope the game does what tarkov did, and just introduce an inbuilt colour correction/post processing tool. even after banning reshade, i figure people will always have some way to change graphics in order to get an advantage with vision. if that's the case, might as well let everyone have easy access to it in order to even the playing field.

Removing editing wont stop "people". This is not consoles. Its pc and "people"always gonna find a way. Reshade, gamma tuning, config editing, using engine exploits. glitches. bugs and cheating of course.
Some percentage of such players will always remain even if you introduce the best of anticheat programs and forbid using some settings or editing something.
Socipaths exist irl as well as in games - this is a part of human nature.

Pathetic actually. People that cheat/exploit get nothing out of this, even the thrill of winning/trolling is shallow, cause they know they didn't do it. Basically taking backseat so a program can win the game for them..... a game they paid to play in the first place.

Like I watch Camomo alot in Rust, and I see these repeat offenders come and go, and they are like they are 'winning' with insults and big epeens..... but I feel sad for them cause they got a pretty severe mental issue. They don't see they are just screwing themselves and paying Camomo's bills. Not to mention the cheat devs as well..... truely is sad and pathetic

Tbh my monitor boosts shadows enough that the comparisons I've seen don't make me feel like it's much advantage over what I can already see. I'm not saying it's ok though.
