D3D12 Device Removed: A fatal error caused the GPU to crash or hang!
I will share an interesting experience. I completely deleted the old game, reinstalled the new one, set the controls, graphics and other parameters both in the game and in AMD Software. Next, I deleted the "shaders" folder and performed a file integrity check.

I started the game. Both in shooting range and in soul survivor my game always crash after about 2-4 minutes. The error message sounded the same every time - D3D12 Device Removed: A fatal error caused the GPU to crash or hang! I started looking for advice on the internet. Restarting the game, Steam account and PC didn't help. I then started running the game as administrator: two soul survivor games and two trio games all worked. Then Hunt started to crash again, on average twice per game.

My knowledge regarding the settings is not great - I currently have no idea how to start playing without the game crashing. I have a high end setup (Ryzen 7 7800X3D + RX 7900 GRE), the original Hunt always worked without the slightest problem on the highest resolution at reasonable temperatures (graphics approx 55°C + processor approx 60°C). It's clear to me that a possible solution to my problem will be to update AMD drivers (I'll wait for a "clean" version, I definitely don't want to install beta drivers.) But that means waiting x days for AMD to release them. That's why I'm asking - does anyone of you have any idea how to solve my problem?

P. S. I don't want to criticize Crytek (there is a lot of criticism on Steam and other social networks), but I would like to solve my problem in a constructive way. However, I will not forgive myself one remark - in my opinion, it's not the graphic design or UI which is important, but the gameplay. And the fact that 2000 people have tested the game without figuring out the problem that haunts me and prevents me from playing (I like Hunt and have +2.2k hours in it) is quite disappointing. In general, I feel like Crytek has been ignoring the AMD community for a long time...

P. P. S. Of course I wrote a detailed crash report for AMD support as well. In case they reply and their solution makes sense, I'll be happy to share it here too, maybe it will help someone.

P. P. P. S. Another possibility that could be responsible for my problem, according to some comments on various forums, is the presence of DirectX 12...

Thanks in advance for your help.

How do you know it's not your perfectly calculated undervolting causing this? You can always save your profile, restore the defaults, try the game and set it back to previous values if the problem still appears.

If you're not trolling us here of course.
No, I'm not really trolling. I'm sad I can't play now because the game is crashing.
But you're right - I have the profile saved, of course, so I can try reinstalling the driver again and try to run the game without undervolting, even though I'm sure I've calculated it correctly (I put a really big reserve until the crash).
Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try tonight.

P. S. I'm really not the only one with this problem. I found several people on Reddit with the same problem - high end AMD setup and D3D12 error message.

Reinstall GPU drivers and reset to defaults all your undervolting, overclock etc. Also try it on different pc. If the error appears again - I would recommend buying a new GPU. Nvidia this time.
Interesting, so you were probably right - after three test games, it looks like the custom graphics card tuning is really to blame. I turned the game on and played in auto-tuning mode. The game ran normally, I finished it without crashing. In the next game I reverted the custom tuning during the game and Hunt crashed after about 4 minutes. The crash returned the game to auto-tuning mode in AMD Adrenaline again, I returned to the game after restarting and played the game without crash. Really interesting.
I'll keep testing this more tonight, but the bottom line for me at the moment is this: always set AMD Adrenaline to auto-tuning before playing a new Hunt, then revert back to custom tuning after the game. And I'll hope that Crytek's next patches, and especially the new AMD driver update that should arrive soon, will solve the problem and I'll be able to play Hunt normally on my custom tuning (slightly undervolting) graphics card again.
Anyway, thanks for the tip. I'll see if that works in the long run.

Ok, so more observations on my problem. I've now played 6 games of the new Hunt with the auto tuned-graphics setup in AMD Adrenaline - the game hasn't crashed even once. But - cancelling the undervoltage, set in manual tuning, increased the gpu temperature by +18 °C to an average of 65 °C (and the hotspot temperature to an average of 74 °C). In my opinion, this clearly indicates that this is a problem with the new Hunt, or rather its optimization for high-end AMD builds. I hope Crytek will work on it. Those higher temperatures are completely unnecessary, plus without reasonable undervolting the graphics power consumption went up by at least 25%. And I'll also see how the AMD drivers update takes effect, that might help too.

Thank you all for your help and advice.

And the temps are completely safe and normal for a modern gpu.

You're right, of course, but I'd still like to get close to the values after undervolting again in the future.

Same problem here. I've tried everything, and what remains is for Crytek to fix the game

Yep. Not the UI but this is the real problem. Optimalization of the game for AMD players. And of course, new AMD drivers could help too.

Unfortunately, the problem is with the game.
I have the same problem with an Nvidia Geforce 1080.
Everything was fine with the old version.
I hope the creators will solve the problem quickly

still love all the people complaining while running almost 10 year old hardware in a gaming PC. 1080 came out in 2016 by the way.

I have seen both videos (and tried some of the tips), but they were not the solution to my problem. Both are relatively general advice that can help for any (not just fps) game. But you're certainly not wrong for posting them here. Thanks.
Otherwise, a friend of mine is a gaming programmer - we were troubleshooting together why there is an undervolting problem in the new Hunt. His answer was pretty straightforward - unfinished optimization for high-end cards, whether AMD or Nvidia.
As I've written before, I don't want to insult Crytek, because I love the game and I've heard thousands of complaints and insults to its programmers over last days. I believe they will fix everything soon and I'll be able to undervolt the graphics for the new Hunt again. Mainly because of the unnecessarily high consumption...
In all the other games I play, my undervolting works seamlessly while maintaining low temperatures and significantly lower power consumption, while the card loses a marginal percentage of its maximum performance (which is really high on the 7900 GRE).

And I find such comments funny, what does the message "Error D3D12 Device Removed A Fatal Error Caused The GPU To Crash Or Hang" have to do with how old the graphics card is? After all, I won't buy a new card specifically for Crytek, especially since I can run other titles without any problems even with this year.

Crytek has a programming problem,
Let's remember that hunt showdown had a problem with server synchronization. With bugs that affected the comfort of playing. But I hope that Crytek will do something about it so that people with older graphics cards can play (my 1080 from 2016 is only 10 percent less efficient than the 3060 from 2021)

It was a generalization but lets also not forget that cryengine from day one with crysis was a computer killer. For years it was the go to if you wanted to test your system you benchmark crysis. That is not to say that hunt does not have issues as it does and optimization i hope is on the list since they updated the engine. and 10% although a small number is huge when the 1080 barely ran decent numbers in hunt under the older less demanding engine.

Why does this thread still exist? You've already fixed the problem - game was glitching because of your gpu's undervolting.

Mark my answer as a solution:

Reinstall GPU drivers and reset to defaults all your undervolting, overclock etc. Also try it on different pc. If the error appears again - I would recommend buying a new GPU. Nvidia this time.

I appreciated your answer with the award, and I didn't know there was another way to mark the best answer - it was my first ever use of a query on a Steam discussion. Otherwise, I don't see why the thread should be deleted - after all, obviously its content has already helped more people, and more might be helped in the future. I think the value of this thread is many times higher than the dozens of other threads that just berate Crytek and insult its programmers.
Anyway, thanks again - the game is stable now, but I still believe I'll be able to undervolt the graphics again in the future, refer to my previous posts.
GLHF to you too!

UPDATE: In the last few days, a new Windows 11 security update, new AMD drivers and a new Hunt patch have been released - none of these things have made a change regarding possible undervolting - the game still crashes when undervolting, so the GPU has to be in factory settings at higher temperatures and power consumption. There is now not the slightest doubt that the problem is poor optimization of the game for certain GPU types. Crytek should start doing something about it, it's been more than half a month...
