Hunt: Showdown 1896

Hunt: Showdown 1896

What makes this game from being more popular?
Asking since I'm very new to this game and it seems very addictive.

Mostly, the difficulty of it. I've tried to get a few people into playing, they were really into the concept when I told them of Hunt, and they thought they could handle a rather hardcore extraction shooter in which any mistake is essentially fatal, but it's one thing, hearing about the difficulty, and another actually experiencing it. In the end, they didn't play more than one game.

Unless you're one of those crack players who get the hang of it immediately without a 200 hour-long transition period of getting killed non stop, most people don't have the time for the level of commitment expected by Hunt, especially since the playerbase on average is pretty good. Honestly, if it wasn't my go-to multiplayer shooter, I'd probably not play it at all. I already suck enough as it is, I don't want to imagine how it would be like if I didn't have more than 1000 hours of training.

Bugs, broken promises, Crytek tends to be radio silent on things. They take a long time to patch out bugs. Most recent update fixed a bug thats 7 years old, in doing so it introduced something like 3 more bugs. Poor performance and stuff like that. Crytek also doesnt balance their game well at all nor do they listen to the community. These issues have compounded over 7 years and have recently gotten very bad. Crytek has failed its community and the community is slowly falling away. No one has any confidence in the game anymore

that's a good point because I am getting wrecked. I'd love to have a pve with this similar atmosphere

He's talking about new players coming in, not the community. I'd wager most new players don't look at the forums when they buy the game. Hunt has never been a popular game anyway.

If it's something you're worrying about, don't, really. This is perfectly natural, and it took me and my buddy an uncomfortable amount of time to get "okay" at the game. We dish out about as much as we take.

i don think the difficulty keeps people away all too much though. if that was the case, tarkov wouldnt have an average of 130k players online and 3 times the total sales of Hunt right, Hunts an easier Tarkov n what not. The games lost more players month per month than its gained anda lot of those are experienced players leaving the game behind and changing their review to negative. thats gonna keep people away too. a lot of factors id say

Fair enough.
The vast majority of people just want to spawn in, find someone to shoot at within 30 seconds, and when they die, spawn back in immediately and do it again. Hunt if you get wrecked you spent a minimum of 5 minutes. They could have died 10 times in COD in the same amount of time.

Not only that but the game is just hard. Time to kill someone is 2 shots at the most with almost every gun for body shots. Headshots kill from everything. In COD or other popular games you have to shoot someone about 15 times for them to die. It lets bad players (players who are always getting caught) have a chance to fight back. In Hunt you get surprised and shot, you are more then likely dead before you can get to any sort of cover.

But these are also the reason the people who do play Hunt play it. We love the difficulty. We love the rush you get from a hard earned win. Wiping a squad in COD is nothing, completely unrewarding.

Yeah i wish i articulated that in my original post. It's so diff from cod that i'd assume it would have a much larger playerbase.
i think the thematic setting might be one reason. I was not interest in hunts "western horror" thing even tho now i think its very cool.

Not buying it like yourself. 👍

I agree. Its interesting that PUBG is very popular tho and its quite slow iirc. you wait for lobby, wait to jump, loot stuff, maybe spawn fight, then go. The tension is bit similiar

Besides the extremely hardcore nature compared to most shooters, I think the fact this game has been out for so long scares people too. Why jump in now when everyone has probably been playing for 5+ years and is filled with super sweats?

Games like Dead By Daylight can attract new players thanks to their collaborations. The Resident Evil chapters for example brought in an insane amount of new players simply cuz of the Resident Evil characters being playable. Hunt doesn't have this kind of pull (un)fortunately.
u might have some fun at beginning of the game but better u get less fun u will have. This game is like Call of Duty 2.0 when it comes to matchmaking. Trust me, u will sweat for u life in every round.

Can you imagine playing Hunt with a bullet sponge COD mechanic? The old 1 hour timer wouldnt be long enough to server wipe.

all you really had to do was spend about tens mins in this forum to get your answers.. Not sure another post was necessary.

The lack of anti-cheat software. The fact they took Hunt showdown and turned it into this slop they call 1896. the fact they don't understand what balance is. Their focus on special ammo, ridiculous traits , faster and faster guns. They "do" listen to the community they just listen to the wrong folks ... they decided to cater to the solo streamer, the casuals and the new players instead of the veterans. They implemented a faster version of hunt with a new play mode called (clash) ... they talked for years about not splitting up the player base then did so anyways. the lack of bug fixes. the gas lighting of the player base on things like bullet penetration and bullet drop, as well as the Match making / mmr system. the lies , oh the lies .. they've completely change the game and not for the better.. newer players are playing with controllers and using xim and Cronus packs.. them allowing of 3rd party software like cross hair overlays and reshade. the ping limits are non existent allowing anyone from half way across the world to play on any server they like. They completely ruin the in game chat system with one that's more team based.. completely changing the in game atmosphere (People cried about discord teams having an advantage) they spoke for ever about trying to stop the camping in game but then implemented and properly removed the revive bolt. Completely Fubar the balance of Solos versus duos/trios by prioritizing solos with strong traits that made no sense to anyone. meanwhile causing every solo in the game to get body camped and insta burned and then speeding up the burn rate because people cried about having to watch bodies for 5 mins .. and now everyone burns in like under 25 secs .. they also still dont have a map we had pre-1896 .. mean while still pushing new skins and dlcs ..and the new skins will be broken and flawed with shoulder showing up or things sticking out of the arms .. or lines where the skins are broken .. LOL.. crytek is a joke at this point.

I mean, I could keep going But I think you get the picture .. the lack of popularity is because crytek has and will shoot themselves in the foot every time. They hit 50k players on the release of 1896 garbage .. and been on a steady decline ever since .. they took an Amazing game in 2022 -2023 era .. and put it in the toilet with as much diarrhea as they could .. starting August 2024.. and right now they either have a cheat problem or they have tweaked the game so bad .. I feel like the gun sway is non existent , recoil all but gone .. and head hit boxes enlarged .. the amount of instant peek head shots is through the roof so either cheats or the game is broken .. either way a lot of players are putting this one down and rightfully so
