There is lore, lore for most legedary hunters and for all events. I've read few articles about mosters when I unlocked all 5 stages of each, kinda meh...

Better see some youtube lore videos where you'll get the gist in 10-20 minutes.

You go in.. kill other players, kill the boss and leave with a bounty.. while trying to avoid other AI monsters and stuff. It's a PVEPVP first person shooter extractor.... can be played solo or with duos or trios..

PVP. The entire design of the game is to bring people together for PVP. All the zombies are just there to annoy you.

You take on bounties for the Hunters association. A plague spread from the bayou bringing in monsters and evil. Your job is to kill em for money, but others are doing the same and they will get in your way.

The early lore from the first few years of the game is really inspired and interesting, but as time progressed it was obvious the story was a vehicle to allow battlepass events to exist. HazmatFTW has a great set of vids covering the lore.
