It happens during peak hours because your port's usual route is being clogged by internet users who have the same provider you do.
All a VPN does is change your routing to be shorter, connecting to Crytek's servers without going through as many hoops.
You can call your ISP and ask them to change your port, but it's an annoying thing to ask and most of the callers you will talk to won't even know what you mean. Easiest way to do it is to schedule a technician's visit for another issue, and once he's there you give him a little 'incentive' to change the port for you.
And no, I'm not talking about your firewall/router's port. I'm talking about the port you're connected to at the ISP. It's something they gotta change on their end, you can't do anything about it other than complain until they do.
Can you explain what port are you talking about?
I am playing on 200 plus ping on europe but with closest vpn it takes me to 158.
Some of these lanes can bounce your connection through unecessary places before taking you where you wanna go, making your trip broader and therefore you take longer to arrive at your destination.
There's no easy way to change these because it requires you getting in touch with a technician that works in the company and not their attendants, which isn't possible unless you schedule a visit.
It's why some gaming VPNs like WTFast are great for some people, while completely useless for others, as all they do is simply grab your connection from those lanes and run it through theirs, which is often much shorter. However, if you're already in a fast lane, it gives you 0 benefits.
