How do you play Solo Shotgun?
Of all my hours in this game
Ive played solo about 99% up until recently
Of that, ive played about 95% rifle

Ive tried to make shotguns be an effective playstyle, but I cant seem to do it

With long range, you have far more control of the engagement
Better ability to escape a bad situation
Overall, its easier to pick apart a 2 man at long range than it is up close

Up close
You have far less control of a situation, as you can easily get surrounded and swarmed by multiple teams
Its far harder to escape a bad situation
etc

Additionally, rifles are versatile weapons, deadly at most ranges
A mosin up close is still deadly
But a shotgun becomes a water gun very quickly

Askin them solo-shotty players
How do you play with a shotty as a primary?

Ive managed to do okay when runnin like Quartermaster, and having a rifle backup, but it still feels like my shotgun primary ends up being more of my backup weapon

Ive tried the hyper-aggressive style

But too often you run into someone else, corner camping with a shotty

IF you are first to the lair, shotties are in a strong position
But otherwise, its very iffy at best

I only solo and never pick shotguns. There's too much spammy body shot stuff to contended with these days, making single round shotties not that effective. They can work well, especially when they don't expect you to have one.

You kinda answered your own question, quartermaster with something long range.

But as a solo, i'm usually running a free Hunter with little to no traits.

well if shotgun is the only option then its romero or double barrel with slug ammo for a hight range oneshoot + oficer pistol(if you have good aim and learned how to shoot alrdy this pistol will be you headshoot god in mid range)

You kind of don't, at least not reliably. Not everything is viable with every playstyle.

The way I've done it in the past is the "don't banish" strategy. Get to the lair first, kill boss, trap the hell out of the lair and wait for someone to stumble into your funhouse.

Problem is, this is easily countered by the enemy just going to the other boss and getting the dark sight boost from there, allowing them to sniff you out. Most people are not stupid enough to start wandering through a compound with an obviously dead boss.

As for weapons, Specter Bayonet with slugs, and whatever pistol you prefer. I like the Pax with dum dums.

Same, at least, SOMETHING with Dum-Dum

The bleed is nice to force an enemy to heal for longer

I feel nobody else uses Dum Dums

Do vitality shots stop bleeds?
I kinda always assumed that they dont

There is a distinct advantage to CQC solo play in that it forces the other player of a two-team to come to you after you kill their buddy. At long-range, it's too easy to down someone only for them to be revived while you reload or try to close the distance. Kill someone right up close and their partner has to try and outgun you at that same close range in order to get the revive, difficult unless they also have a shotty (or a melee and giant balls)

The trick, obviously, is getting that first kill, after which you have the advantage of a point-and-click boomstick designed specifically for what you will be doing.

Stalking and then rushing once they're distracted by something is generally the approach if you aren't able to door/corner camp. It's not that hard to sneak in this game if people aren't expecting to see you. If you can bring a dolch or quartermastered range weapon, use that at absolutely no less than medium range to get a quick pick if you're able, and then close the distance as quickly as possible. Don't take any engagements if you aren't within a decent rushing range.

In all honesty though, just take this same advice but use a mosin with bayonet instead. There's little reason not to, given the unreliability of shotguns and the benefit of a real, solid rifle.

Shotgun seems counterintuitive to solo play. Id say running quarter master is almost mandatory and even then I'd still run it as a backup. Be sure to bring a derringer.

I kinda always assumed that they dont

They do.

We'll be seeing a lot more dum dum when they get buffed in 1.6. Springfield dum dum might be the new Sparks.

Bring an uppercut to balance things out and try aim for the headshot. Or if you have quartermaste, mosin obrez.

Lately ive been having fun with hatchet romero and twin conversions with dum dum.

I use a shot bolt to delete one hunter quickly then immediately run to cover or try to outgun someone with an uppercut. Shotbolt has nasty one hit kill ranges so you can get to cover immediately afterwards but it also has a difficult skill ceiling so there's that.

At short distances you need to control much more situation than at long distance - you are closer, you in compound which are PoI for most players, you need to learn balance between be quick and be silent. Most hard part - to keep all info inside your hear and constancly calculation it.

well its simple. you need a romero hatchet, start running and dont stop.

oh and always take 2 stamina shots, not the weak ones.
