Basic gameplay loop confusion

I'm not quite sure I understand this game's basic gameplay loop. People have described this game as an extraction shooter but I always found it had more in common with a battle royale, perhaps that's where my confusion is coming from? I haven't played the game for quite some time and want to give it another shot, but I want to give it a FAIR shot, I want to know what I'm doing wrong before blaming the game.

You choose a hunter, can modify their loadout and get some perks, then you join a match, find clues, hunt a target, and finally exfiltrate. Is that what the game is, or am I missing something? Every match you just go hunt the target and leave? And if someone else hunts the target first you hunt them or leave? It's confusing because if you have no money and you're just starting off with a junk hunter, it feels like there's absolutely nothing you can do. You have no chance at fighting the target, you have no chance against other players, what are you supposed to do? I don't mean this as in "there's literally nothing to do", I mean this as CLEARLY I'm missing something or not understanding.

It seems like this game is really strangely paced because you have to be quick to reach the target before anyone else, but you have to be slow or else you'll just get picked off by someone you didn't see because you weren't paying attention.

I guess I should be asking, do you have to hunt the target? Are there other objectives? It seems very difficult to do without being well equipped, and you can't get well equipped without doing it, so I must be missing something.

You are wrong "Junk Hunters" are free and you think different weapons or traits make you some kind of god and without them you have no chance. This is total BS. Also find just one clue and you make $50 so money will come.

Play game game, instead of making stuff up that you clearly not understand. Romero is a good shotgun for free. Just play the game and you will have money to buy you some stuff. You do not need a $1000 gun and it won't help you winning.

What you are missing is that Free hunters + good tools and consumables are easy effordable and NOT "Junk". You can pick weapons up from others you know. The nagant pistol is really trash so you might want to use a different pistol, other than that free gear is not as bad as you think.

You are really new into the game. I really advice to find a friend to play with, because learning this game together is much more fun. Otherwise this game might seem very hard at start.

But generally yea you summed up the game. Although this game is not battle royale, because the area doen´t get smaller and you don´t have to kill the boss.

First of all you get into the swamps to survive and to make a buck out of it. Killing a boss gives you the most exp and money. You also can find weapons, money, perks and other stuff all around the world. So again, you can just search for those and level our Hunter if you want to.

About the starting equipment, is not that bad. You can do a lot with it, you just need to learn when to use what. All enemies have weaknesses and strengths. The Butcher is weak to cutting weapons but takes less dmg from blunt weapons. The spider is immune to poison but takes a little bit more dmg from fire ect.
You need to learn what equipment to always take with you. So like a knuckle knife will do 90% of the AI killing. A medkit with at least 2 syringes is also a must. Over time you will learn what to take and what to use when.

I hope you played the tutorial, because it covers most of the important stuff. And you can just test things there :)

Boss (target) is just a way how to bring all players to one spot for a nice shootout. And the bounty is basicaly award for the last team standing

Bounty is the main goal of the game technically

Not really. Is surviving. Getting bounty and dying is kinda useless.

Is kinda like in Tarkov. Getting quests done, killing stuff or looting won´t get you far if you die most of the time. First learn how to not die. After how carefully get to the bounty, kill it and still survive.

It is extraction shooter. But let's be frank, would it be fun to go, kill a boss, get a bounty and extract without killing anyone? It is basically a battle royal with a layer added to it, where killing everyone is not the only goal.
