Hunt: Showdown 1896

Hunt: Showdown 1896

Low fps no matter the settings
RTX 3060 12GB
I5-11400F
32GB ram DDR4
SSD drive

The game runs on ultra with DLSS on quality in stable 60 FPS but in a lot of compounds the frames drops down to 30-40 FPS no matter the settings. In fact, i'm having a feeling that the low fps happens more often when i'm playing on lowest settings.

What have i tried:
- Changing the settings from ultra to lowest, the results were worse than on ultra
- Turning the Vram usage from 90 to 70, no difference
- Removing Shaders cache

If anyone has some ideas i will gladly read them all and try. On the old engine, the game was running smoothly but since the new update it is hard to play the game without server lags and FPS drops.

The game is CPU limited big time. 3090 or 4090 doesnt make any difference if your cpu can't hanle it. But try to set everything to high and see how that works. Thats the default and maybe they optimized those setting the most.

The thing is, my cpu is not that old. It has 6 cores 4.7 GHZ. Nothing is overheating, the highest temperature of cpu during hunt is 60'C and on gpu it's 66'C

How the game works and how it looks are two different things. Higher settings will just make the game use up more of the GPU resources, that's it, it does not change in any way how the game works or make it run any better.

It's like saying change the bodykit of the car, maybe then the weird noises under the hood will go away.

But I think I saw something like this before, that someone was having pretty much the same thing with an RTX card and he was having low fps. I'll try to find it again.

While CPU is essential, if you are looking at your utilization, it is not the CPU that is maxing out (for me around 30% max). The GPU rides at 100% or near there (w/4070 super).

I had a 4090 with a 5 year old 3970x threadripper. NOTHING could bring up performnce, not even everything on low and ultra performance dlss. It was cpu limited. With a new 24 core threadripper it runs like butter at 120 fps on ultra. Also with a laptop that contains a 4090, that is as fast as a desktop 3090, it was running way better, because it had a 13980hx cpu. If you are gpu limited thats fine. You can lower settings in this case and get a boost. In cpu limit no setting will rescue you. CPU limits are far worse than gpu limits, because they have very eratic frame times.
So in case of lowering settings doesn't help you with fps its a pretty clear sign of a cpu limit. For a cpu limit you don't have to "max out" all the cores. Some calculations are not "threaddable" so one core has to do it. if the single core performnce is too low you are in a cpu limit already. No matter if 14 or 50% of your cpu is used.

try reinstalling gpu drivers using ddu.
download the newest driver-use ddu to delete present gpu drivers-start in safe mode- install the driver.
this helped me whenever they launched this new engine update

All of those tips don't really do anything. I tried them. I even went as far as reinstalling the entire OS. You also can't just force the game, that is coded to run on DX12, to run in DX11 by a steam command. What I can say is that ultra settings are too heavy for what setup you have. Ultra volumes alone drag even my 4090 to the ground.
If you wanna test performance you have to look at the same location at the same conditions. Even time of day have different performance profiles. Some peoplle thought disabling tesselation saved them till they realized on a different spot its crap again.

have had drop to 30fps in the cabin compounds especially inside boss lair
upgraded gpu and no more fps drop.

You can say what you want about the engine but its making use of both, a good cpu and gpu. If one of both sucks the other half can't save it. That PS4 days are over where games where designed to run on a tablet cpu.
