Hunt: Showdown 1896

Hunt: Showdown 1896

Stillwater Bayou
Now the map is back in rotation I must say it's pretty bad, especially compared to the new one.
Sooooo flat, so much open, zero cover exposed area. The open fields around Healing Waters in every direction except towards Pitching, Open field between Darrow and Lockbay dock, water all over the place.
Small box compounds, especially Catfish.
I was expecting a real rework to these maps. I thought they would be brought up to the same quality as Mammon's Gulch.
I wish I could select and deselect maps to play on. I'd never play Stillwater again unless improved significantly.

It is good to have some variety.

I don't mind variety. I obviously wouldn't want them to turn every map into Mammon's Gulch.
What I meant is bigger, more complex compounds. Additional buildings, second floor, basement, walkways to other buildings... Look at Grizzly Lodge. Small but complex. Catfish is an 8x8 metre box with a few small houses and water everywhere.
An empty field in not "variety". Offers no tactical options, no flanking, no cover, no outplaying your opponent. What it offers is 2 minutes of running to get to the nearest cover. That's it. Hold down "W"

They just need to add more ways to see and go inside, it was always issue but folks here would tell you "omg just wait outside or leave" .

What do you love about it? Just curious, maybe it will help me see why it's ok?

I agree completely, the old map is so bad, so ugly even with the improvements (just look at the trees seriously), and even if it was good and beautiful, I played it hundreds of hours, so I am done with it. Let us play the new map please.

...don't forget, the nice wide open Supply drop in the Middle of the Map, with the Bounty...

-> in almost every Round at least one Sniper camps the Thing hardcore from the Bushes on the Edge (with Special-Ammo) :steamhappy:

Maybe there's something I'm missing with the new map, no one thinks it's too cluttered, complex and confusing? Anybody else think that the new compounds and particularly their buildings have lost all character through over complexity and have severely damaged a balanced attack/defend game design?

Yep. And obviouly it doesn't matter how many times they die there my teammates go there regardless. Horrible place. Everything around Healing Waters is horrendous. There's like 1 tree every 100m, no elevation, no buildings, no rocks, nothing but grass.
It was good when the game came out when having a Sparks sniper was the most dangerous long range weapon in existence. These days there's a lot more fast firing, scoped weapons so having all this open area and trying to cross them is somewhere between a Russian Roulette and a Death Sentence.

I find the new map way too overcluttered. I think it is fine if they leave stillwater as it is.

You're making it sound like sparks sniper was the only scoped rifle before 1896 update. It wasn't. Stop running in straight lines and you'll be fine!

There's nothing wrong with Stillwater. I like the simplicity of it and it's good to mix it up with the complex Mammon's gulch. There's nothing wrong with liking one map over the other either. We all have our preferences.

I also find the Special ammunition on all Weapons + Map problematic.

You get burned, bleed or are poisoned - on the new Map you can find Cover almost any time (and can stop the Effect), on Stillwater you are at the mercy on open Field...

(...the new Map has spoiled me :lunar2019laughingpig: )

Yeah, thats the point.
But diversity is great
When you are getting tired of running on glutch the stillwater feels so refreshing
But you are tired of bushfights in stillwater you are getting the chillwalk through colorado

I am afraid but when the rest of maps are back the gluch will feel more strange comparade to the average hunt experiense

but no doubt that overal quality of the gluch is amazing compared to the stillwater especially.
but also I would like to mention one extremely personal opinion in which I found stillwater and previous maps better than the gluch in one major thing.

Gluch got rid of the bushfights. Yes, there are still fights in the woods... but Stillwater is a reminder of this great moments where people are hiding litteraly in bushes.
From one obvious point - it might be a good thing. But overal I found some medium range weapons kinda useless on gluch

you are usually fighting on significant distance of 50+ meters or its quickly escalates into close combat >15m
and thats why even if marathon could be alright but there is no reason to use berthier, vetterli, martini-henri because they are more like rifles so they are not good at the cqc but also their bullets are slow that will be significant enough compared to lebel, mosin or even sparks. Actually winfield centennial kinda do relatively the same but it works with levering and you can also choose the ammo type including the basic ammo with 600m/s speed.

and this is annoiyng from gameplay standpoint because the least thing you want is to trade on 80m+ using ironsights while the dude actually got a bigger scope.
and as result you should let enemy closer just to realise that they are using shotguns but there was no mid range to find it out in time and hold them.

on the Stillwater side the visibility of the enemy works in the different way. It feels easier to find the approximate location of enemies but its harder to spot their exact position.
So people got to be be cautious but should advance and ambush also. In other words, variety of fighting range could be harder to estimate.

And exactly in these condition I feel like all the weapons may be enjoyable and on their places

P.S.
♥♥♥♥ "Allen's". worst nightmare compound among all the maps. the closest thing to compete is the port reeker. bring back De Salle and Lawson...
and my legendary hunters too btw xD
