Hunt: Showdown 1896

Anybody play on a HDD?
Curious cause I have no idea if it's my SSD malfunctioning, curious if it's even possible

It is possible and the game is just loading a tiny bit slower, thats all. Its not worth instaling on SSD even if you play on highest setings.

are *you* the reason I have such a long "waiting for other players" every once and a while? (jk, I don't actually care)

Complete and utter BS. Of course the load times is faster with SSD and of course its totally worth it to install on SSD, like any modern games with giants sizes and tons of assets to load. If there is always some Potato in the lobby who takes years to load it the game will w8 but most people have SSDs so thank god not everyone is as clueless as you are.

2.0 also has slightly better load times I think. Feels like it at least. Hunt is one of the very few games that supports Direct Storage now, from what I read its gain is very minimal, if you use a HDD is probably worthless.

ssd it the better option BY FAR in hunt esspecially, it functions so much better on ssd than hdd, hdd takes ages to fully render everything in a timely fashion, you can literally be playing for 10-15mins and still see buildings with no walls still trying to render. where as ssd is immediate as soon as the game starts. i know ill get people saying "ssd will only make you load into a game faster" trust me the difference is night and day.

i use my hdd to store videos/images/documents etc

Well friend of mine with Hunt instaled on M.2 SSD was always loaded AFTER me even when I had this game on HDD.
You can have fastest SSD in the world but when you have weak procesor and old GPU, it doesnt really matter. And even when you take system much higher then recomended, there is not that much difference between HDD and SSD, you are waiting for other players anyway...
I have it on SSD just because I bought it for different game and another HDD wont fit into my case.

even on bad hardware SSDs are worth the price.
they're not even that expensive anymore, you can get moderate capacity sata ssds for damn cheap now there's very little excuse to not have an ssd

as for "not worth installing on an SSD even on highest settings"
utter fabrication, you'll have texture streaming issues, model pop-in and a slew of other issues

hunt didn't get direct storage this update, didn't make the feature list, but with the engine change almost nothing is actually loaded in the loading screen, there's no textures or geometry loaded until ingame where it's streamed in.

direct storage should hit in a future update though no idea when

I experienced slight streaming issues but nothing game breaking. Hunt runs very well on HDD compared to other games even after update.

don't doubt that, but saying there isn't a point to an ssd is just objectively false

For cuting edge AAA game, yes. For Hunt, I dont really think so, like if you want to have best possible experience then yes. But casual player doesnt need it, it doesnt break the game.

In some old games released before 2022, I put everything on the hdd, since there is no space on the SSD. The fresh game (based on Alan Wake 2) will no longer be ready to load sounds, textures and locations due to the slow operation of the hard drive, the game will also be unstable and lag very much. This is what you need to focus on.:lunar2025snakeinablanket:
