Hunt: Showdown 1896

Hunt: Showdown 1896

New player here, soul survivor should be replaced with something better for practicing fights
So I got this game and I really like it. I have no issues with the hunt mode itself. I don't inherently mind the down time, and the slow and methodical gameplay combined with the quick deaths make it feel like a proper wild west shootout, which is incredibly fun.

My isssue is that this game does not respect the new players time in the slightest. I run around for 20 minutes, get into a fight and then it ends pretty quick. From a gameplay standpoint I like that, but it also means that it takes forever to acquire the experience needed to be confident during gunfights.

I read up online that few veterans play the soul survivor mode (apparently used to be called quick play) because now there is no incentive to. I think this is the perfect opportunity then to introduce a new mode to replace soul survivor (so the playerbase isnt too split up) that will actually be more useful for practicing gunfights, because currently soul survivor has the same issue as hunt with it taking forever to find one.

My suggestions:
- soul survivor mode except only half the map is playable (less downtime)
- a 3v3 elimination type gamemode restricted to one compound (no rewards so hunt mode is still the main mode, this should only be for practice and messing around)
- a version of hunt mode except double the teams are in each lobby. At each spawnpoint, instead of only 1 team spawning, 2 teams spawn (not right next to each other just in the same vicinity) so that you can usually guarantee a gunfight at the very beginning.

I think crytek should really look into something of this sort otherwise they will never retain many of their new players, which is a shame cause this game is incredibly unique and really nails the aesthetic and theme. The gunplay is very fun too, and the equipment system is awesome.

Yes its good to practice gunfights and all, but if they implemented a mode like a TDM, the tension from running somewhere and suddenly being in a fight would be gone, knowing someone was going to be there no matter what. New players that dont stay because the learning system isnt welcoming wont be fixed by TDM

I never mentioned anything about a deathmatch

a deathmatch mode would be counter-productive and would not teach the player how to survive and thrive

Good to see the thoughts of a new player.

I think that the cap for new players should be increased up to say LvL 75 and they only go up against players that level and below.

It's sad seeing 1 & 2 star players in the same round as me in Randoms. I'm currently 4MMR with close to 3000 hours.

I cannot imagine it being fun at all for newer players.

i dont see the point of adding another game mode since 99% of the community is just there for bounty hunt anyway. there is a reason why quickplay doesnt have any MMR at all because there simply isnt many that play it.

other game modes like TDM or what you are suggesting are just fun for a maybe an hour before people will get bored and never touch it again. hunt just has another community. we dont need really need fast paced game modes imo.

i suggest shooting AI once you clear the server to train your aim.

Except for the fact people on Hunt in current year only play for the fight. Source? Just about every match ever. Economy means nothing and people are bored of wasting time running around or waiting for players to come to the bounty.

'aiming' isnt the point. I have good aim. I was gm in overwatch and have multiple nukes in cod games. The point is to get good at gunfights, ie decision making/positioning/looking in the right directions/knowing where people will be and what equipment to use etc. Ive quickly learned that in this game my aim only goes so far

I never said anything about a tdm deathmatch type mode if you read my post, however a 3v3 elimination type mode being 'fun for maybe an hour before people get bored' is kind of the point. the point of the mode wouldnt be to overshadow the hunt mode, it would be purely for practice and maybe messing around here and there. Hunt mode is the staple and what makes this game unique and intriguing, so ideally a majority of the playerbase SHOULD be there. I just want a way to practice gunfights. no mmr is fine, because I don't mind playing against good people (in fact I would learn faster that way) I just mind the time investment required

I only play for the PvP but a team death match mode wouldn't be as fun and just be another generic shooter. It's the setting and how you can play however you wish at any time.

A horde mode would definitely be fun but would need way more types of AI and new servers to be put in place.

The servers currently Devs had to reduce AI and how they spawn because of performance issues. Hence why AI pops in and doesnt spawn unless players are in the area

Yes people dont like running around and so on. But it would be the same old same old each time in a pure, quick-onset PVP only mode. Going from place to place at constant threat of ambush or having to always use your brain to avoid dangerous situations is part of Hunt, and is the HUNT part. You are playing Hunt: Showdown, not Showdown.

If you want to practice PVP and so on, you can also do training range with someone (either a friend or ask someone to on reddit or here whateva), with infinite respawns at randomized locations.

If you ask me, all the PVE variables, PVP chaos with multiple players in lobby, and intentional lack of knowledge for where the boss is all make the game more enjoyable. COD is there if you just want to shoot people the whole time.

Practicing pvp with someone that you not only have to find but convince to take time out of their day to fight you in the practice mode is just not a reasonable solution. It also wouldn't really teach you too much, a 3v3 mode would be ideal for that.

The point isnt to overshadow the hunt mode, the point is for it to be a practice/warmup mode that gets you prepared for the hunt mode. I completely agree with everything you said about what makes hunt showdown special, but none of that invalidates the desire for something akin to a low-stakes low-reward 3v3 elimination gamemode intended for practice
