veteran player responding to criticisms
i've played hunt since 2019, currently 2k hours. my take on the latest hunt update is that, while some bugs were introduced and the UI update needs a lot of refinement, the new map, new engine with visual, audio and countless other updates, updated guns, traits and skins are easily a huge and awesome-- and FREE-- improvement. i'm annoyed by the review bombing because i want this game to grow, so crytek can release more awesome free updates. negative reviews from players who play often and enjoy the game is an example of someone working against their own best interests, and it's sad to see.

here's my responses to some of the negative comments i've seen:

edit: "the map bug causes me to lose hunters, not have fun, etc"
the map bug sucks! worst bug of the moment imo. 2 things: try not to smash that map button right after someone hits banish, and alt-f4 if you freeze to quickly rejoin the map and hopefully save your team with a clutch appearance from the depths. other than that, i hope this bug is priority #1

edit: "theres a cursor on my screen while i play"
yeah that sucks too and is 2nd priority imo. i mean it ain't worth a thumbs down but it sucks

"they ruined the UI"
some info has moved, some bugs here and there, yes. i want those fixed! some changes add clicks, yes, especially if you don't figure out the hotkeys. "it looks like hulu and i hate it" comes nowhere close to justifying leaving a negative review, especially from people still actively playing the game. check out psychoghost's hunt streams if you want to see someone using the new UI so efficiently that your eyes literally cannot keep up. it's not as bad as people are saying, even though it has issues.

"the UI is for console players"
this is not the condemnation you think it is. making the menu more accessible for console players is not a bad thing, sorry. maybe something else in your life is making you mad.

"the UI has predatory monetization"
no it doesn't: the game is not pay to win in any way, nor does it use any type of gambling mechanics. advertising skins to people who can afford them is one of the ways crytek is able to release updates like this one for free. being mad about this is just FOMO.

"it's not review bombing"
yes it is. just because you're doing it for a perceived reason this time, and not just because you hate the developer's politics or whatever ♥♥♥♥♥♥ reason you had last time, doesn't mean it's not review bombing.

"if we don't review bomb crytek won't hear us"
crytek responds to players consistently. very few companies do any better, most companies do way worse. if they haven't fixed your specific complaint there's a good chance it can't be prioritized given the amount of time and resources they have available. review bombing won't help you be heard, it will only discourage new players from enjoying the game.

"oh you don't think its ok to criticize?"
of course i do. i am critical of the new UI. but players with 100, 500, 2000 hours in the game giving a negative review is ridiculous and, again, review bombing. criticism is still possible in a positive review, in discussion forums, on twitch, on youtube or whatever.

"everyone defending crytek is a corporate shill"
please. crytek has 400 employees. microsoft gaming has 20,000. support small businesses ffs.

"after a whole week they haven't fixed the thing i dislike"
maybe it's because i've worked in software development for 25 years that this makes me lol. again, small company.

"shadows are too dark"
seems like a hardware issue though i haven't seen it, some folks have indicated maybe your hardware is getting a bit long in the tooth. crytek was pretty up-front about the new engine leaving some older hardware behind, an unfortunate but inevitable part of gaming.

"my FPS has dropped"
there's additional pressure on the GPU, sure. but i've cranked my visuals up higher than ever before and still get good FPS. my card is 30-series nvidia. maybe check your settings (esp. DLSS) or wait for some optimization, or stop running a bunch of stuff in the background while you game, if you're having issues.

"there are so many cheaters"
maybe you live in a region that's full of cheaters cheating, but i don't. sorry if you do. i hope something changes. perhaps you haven't considered that getting more new players into the game will lower the percentage of bad actors overall?

"the servers are bad"
again, i don't experience this. if this one's on crytek, i hope they get it fixed, but after 2000 hours of not experiencing bad servers i gotta say i'd guess it's your problem not theirs.

"nobody asked for bullet drop"
not only is this incorrect, but the bullet drop itself is so inconsequential. skill issue

thanks for reading, sorry if i made you mad or insulted you. i'm salty cuz i think hunt is one of the best games i've ever played and i want to share it with more people. glhf

I play on EU, and the games often hitch or lag. The netcode feels off. You can round a corner and get shot as if you were out in plain sight.

good, and also right.

The review bombing is wrong. It's okay to have genuine concerns, but looking at the recent reviews they just come across as entitled and hissy-fitty. Game's really getting good, and was always good. It isn't perfect but it's really unique and love the direction they're taking this in.

yeah i also feel its a little over the top

I dont really like the ui that much. mostly too much menus. but its not that bad.

Meh, oh well. Almost as if customers have a right to review a product. Then again complaining about people complaining does come across as entitled and hissy-fitty.

Also

THE NEW ENGINE WILL FIX EVERYTHING

naaaa.. the review bombing was well deserved.. they basically catered the entire UI to console players.. it was the absolute worst UI I've ever seen in a game.. if we don;t push these devs they will never change anything that is the power of the people.. this game isn't going to "die" because of the reviews.. I'll change mine back once they get off their asses and actually fix this atrocious UI. The rest of the update is awesome.. but that does not make up for this UI.

I mean if the UI is enough to ruin the game for them... where were these guys when we had what looked like a generic unity asset flip UI before hand?

This UI is honestly only AS BAD as the old one was... but because it changed and the 1 braincell remaining can't accept change they came out of the woodwork to attack it.

The review bombing is absolutely deserved as we are the paying customer. To go from something that functions well enough for its job to something that does the job but 10x slower and non intuitive in general is a big concern.

I've learned the parts I need to use and can do it as fast as I can physically do it but it's still way slower. My biggest irk is having to click the favorite star over and over and also filter traits by name as it resets every launch of the game. There is absolutely no way this build was tested by anyone as these issues would have been identified and fixed.

Ive got the game running now at a stable 120FPS but it took hours of testing variations to achieve this. I also need to reboot my PC at times as the game will stutter until doing so.

I never reboot my PCs unless it's for updates and old Hunt I could leave the PC on for weeks with no issues

I had an Alienware around 2005 that was strictly used for gaming specifically Battlefield 2. When I checked in the BIOS it had been rebooted 7 times since I bought it. This was over 2 years later 🤣

The map bug is game breaking and once again you cannot tell me that through all test periods nobody experienced this numerous times. That should have been a day 1 Hotfix .

Crytek can reap what they sow on this one simply for not putting this in Test Servers.

Also my review has been negative for years simply because of the pish poor servers. There is just nothing else like Hunt or I would be playing that.

Nice joke OP, but not creative enough to award.
Arier Aug 22, 2024 @ 1:51pm
Daily reminder that term "review bombing" was coined by shill jurnos and companies to downplay criticism. Reviewing bad product badly is not "bombing". You don't see this term thrown around when reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

Updates are not free, funded by mtx in already pay to play game. Said "free" updates rendered game unplayable for me and many others and essentialy stole game i've bought so it's rather "scam scheme" than "update" for me.

Sounds more like veteran shill apologist than veteran player.

ah right i missed that one "this wasn't tested" yes it was, bugs are a part of development. and again the update was free. your entitled ass main character syndrome is a big concern

10 ppl playing couple matches can be called test i guess, highly insufficient but still. And yet again one more hypocrite accusing others of "main character syndrome" shilling scam just to lure in uninformed noobs to get few cheap kills in his lobbies.

that's true and if hunt were a bad product, this statement would be relevant.

there's no way to make this statement relevant

Ok, that's why you reviewed it positive, many others don't overlook bad performance, rendering game unplayable, bad ui or whatever other reason there is to not like the product. Hunt is a bad product, objectively from many angles.
